Poster: A snowHead

Hi, looking for suggestions. 4 (nearly) middle aged men looking for a resort that is good for beginners/intermediates, reasonable apres ski (i.e. few decent bars, nothing too wild) beer not too expensive, in Europe. Needs to be big enough to ski somewhere new every day. Done Grand Massif out of Flaine before and that was perfect (but want to try somewhere else). Not too fussy on accomodation options. Any advice would be welcome as there is so much choice!

Cervinia- Decent resort, not too pricey, good bars and great for beginners and intermediates with the option to hop over the ridge into Zermatt for a slide

@Jimbo1985, for ski in ski out, you're more likely generally to find options in the French resorts, but it's available in other places too.
Is ski in ski out a must have? If so, you'll be limiting yourself quite some.
For reasonable beer, you're best off away from France, in Austria or Italy most likely.
Dolomites ticks many boxes, not necessarily ski in ski out though, but might be slightly lacking on the aprés side of things although as @Alastair Pink says, Selva is your best bet for that aspect.

@Jimbo1985, Mayrohfen, can do a different area every day, good for beers, not mega expensive (for a ski resort). No ski in a ki out though. If ski in ski out is essential then Les Menuires

Yeah - Sauze D'Oulx would be good.

Not been, but from what I've heard Andorra fits the bill for cheap beer, reasonable size ski in/out and decent for intermidiot.

1. Pas de la Casa
2. St Anton

Austria does not rip you off on the mountain for beer like france can.
I would say Mayhofren or somewhere in the Ziller

Salbaach Hinterglemm- we stayed the Hinterglemm side. Huge ski area for all abilities and typical Austrian apres.

Ischgl a good shout.
Plenty big enough ski area and while accommodation not the cheapest prices for food and drink both on and off the mountain good, and apres second to none.
Also while not absolutely ski in/out the town is very compact and pick your accommodation well and you'll be able to ski to within 100m of home/only have a 250m walk to a gondola in the morning.

Sauze (if snow is half decent - reasonable prices - a few lively bars - and a sense of travel when going to connected areas)
Soll (no ski-in, ski out - reasonably lively - lots of skiiing across SkiWelt
Soldeu (prob a better fit than Pas de la Casa - which is a younger crowd - good lifts - enough skiing)

Clearly the Dolomites tick the boxes. They aren't strong on ski-in/out but they have it. It is nice if you can find it, but the four minute walk where I stay is close enough. The skiing is more important than the apres. If necessary you can make apres happen yourself, but you can't fix the skiing.

Both have been mentioned but Cervinia and Soldeu in Andorra would fit the bill - both big ski areas, if you include Zermatt area in with Cervinia. Neither are truly ski in/ski out, but if you get your hotel location right, then you can be within 200m of the lift (so no buses needed). Both have enough bars in town to keep you going, plus a few good bars on the slopes also.

For groups including beginners, I'd suggest accommodation in the Falaise section, given a really easy start to the day (Proclou).
You can go from inexpensive s/c apts, to chalets, to posh hotels like Mil8 (https://www.hotelmil8.com ).

A group of beginners/intermediates shouldn't find themselves skiing the same thing day in/day out in Ischgl. And you can always get the split lift pass and do day trips up/down the valley to See/Kappel/Galture.

In the Dolomites in Selva, Arraba, colfosco/Corvara you can find places that are almost ski in/ski out.
Ischgl - you can get a hotel near Pardatschgrat gondola, almost ski in.
