Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hi. I’ve booked a family holiday to Madonna and am looking to book lift passes, skis and lessons for multiple people. Does anybody have any advice for best ski schools rental shops and lift passes?
Does anyone know of a one stop shop where o can get all 3?
I have also read don’t buy a full pass for beginners just buy a pay as you ride type pass…is this a good idea?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

@Mountainfresh, I haven't been (a mate has but he didn't have lessons, had his own gear).

However, "one stop shop" sounds like a TO (Travel Operator) which given you've booked the trip already you are not using? No worries it should be simple enough.

Lift passes can be booked on line here I can't see any reference to a "pay as you ride" option.

List of ski equipment and ski lesson providers here.

Sorry if this teaching you to suck eggs.

Equipment hire wise I think they will all be much of a muchness but maybe google reviews might give an indication. Ski schools, for sure recommendations would be good but you also want to make sure you find one with a convenient meeting point for you.

@Wayne was the forum 'expert' on Madonna, but sadly left the forum some years ago.

You might be able to glean some info from his earlier posts (now 10 years old !!)

@Mountainfresh, have you done other family ski holidays? Is it just Madonna you want info about? My son took family to Madonna a few years ago - he did find it involved more travelling around the resort and faffing than he was used to, so @Layne's advice about the geography is important. You need to know exactly where you'll be staying before you can home in on the best way to arrange the rest.

we've been there quite a few times, we're are you staying ?

lift passes -
some hotels can get these for you at a discount so ask yours, if not then they do dynamic pricing and last year we found about a month before was the optimum time,
our near beginners bought a lift pass and needed it as there are several easy blues that they will be on quite quickly. However we've never used the pay as you go system but it's probably only worth it for complete beginners. Maybe ask the ski school ?

lessons
we've always used these guys https://www.scuolascicampiglio.com/en/ my wife and I get private lessons but others folks did the group lessons and everyone has always been happy. They were very good when someone was moving between groups, good enough to move up but then lacking in confidence when they did so they yo-yo'd a bit. For beginners they pick them up from your hotel in a minibus and take to the beginners area every morning. You get a discount if you order group lessons online before arrival.

Ski hire
the above ski school have a ski hire place and give a discount if you have group lessons (they have a shop in the middle of town) so that gives you the one stop shop. If there are a group and you ask nicely they'll probably give you a discount for everyone. No queries at all when someone needed to change boots.

We've also used the Olympic ski place at the South of the town as it was opposite our hotel and we got a discount, they were also good. Many hotels have an arrangement with one of the hire places so again ask your hotel. Some ski hire places have a minibus that will come and get you from the hotel, fit you out and then take you back with your gear. The only place we wouldn't use again is at the bottom of the Spinale lift, but that was a few years ago so it might have improved.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for all your advice and help. The hotel we are staying at is Hotel Bonapace and from what I can gather from google is right next to the small lake in town (the one which apparently doubles as an ice rink in winter).

I will contact the ski schools mentioned and see if they can provide equipment to and contact my hotel to see if they offer anything.

Thanks for the review post and the links. I’m hoping it’ll all be stress free Eh oh!

One tip, from that location you can take a short cut to the Pinzolo express via the Colarin cableway station which is on top of a car park! Take the ski bus south and get off at the Colarin multi storey car park, find the lift/elevator and there is a mid station on the top of the car park. From there you can go to Pinzolo or to the cinque laghi area, it’s a good way to avoid queues.

Great tip, thanks I’ll look to use it. How far would you say the lake is from the centre..walking?

we stayed in a hotel very near yours and it's only 5-10 minutes walk to the main square. There are a few bars closer. On your first day just do a loop of the lake/park and you'll get your bearings.
