Poster: A snowHead
|
I bought a Pieps Tour Rider 24 a few years ago and was wondering if anyone has the same problem with it that I've got. The problem is that because the main cargo compartment is so small that as soon as you put anything in it the flap covering the air bag keeps popping open on its own. I think the newer bags have a little clip to prevent this happening but I was wondering if anyone with an older bag like mine has found a work around? Thanks.

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

I've got one of the newer versions. As I understand it, the zipper needs to detach "instantly" and mustn't be impeded by anything. The little clip, in practice, never holds, so I'm not sure you should worry too much.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I had a couple of Pieps Jetforce packs, a 24 and a 34 and the actual volume was nowhere near the practical volume, I doubt it was half the advertised amount (think of the size of 24x1ltr cartons of milk etc, which would be bigger than the pack itself).
Having said that, I never had a issue with the airbag zip coming undone. It sounds like you are overpacking the storage compartment.
In comparison the Scott E series airbags are pretty much true to the rated volumes.

I agree with powderadict about the volume by the way.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Thanks for getting back to me on this. I'm going to try Pieps to see what they have to say. Interesting that the clips doesn't work either. I should have bought the 34l.

There was a test in BERGSTEIGER magazine in 01/2015 measuring the main compartment of the Pieps Jetforce 24 at just 13l. Scott Air Free AP 30 is said to hold 20l.

Nice to have my opinion of the Peips Tour 24 confirmed. My Scott is the later Scott Patrol E1 40 with the Alpride super capacitor fan system, which I believe much closer to the true volume.
In a thread a couple of years ago, Spyderjon mentioned "The stated volume of the Scott packs are with the Alpride system removed so with the system installed the 40L nets out at 37/38L, the 30L = 27/28L and the 22L = 19/20L."

If you put in anything larger than a pair of mittens the side opens up. I wouldn't buy the 24l again.
