Just in case people haven't seen the adverts in today's papers, Flybe has now released its winter flights e.g Birmingham to Geneva, Chambery, Berne and Salzburg.

yes, and there are some very cheap flights mid-week - I booked one last week for about £28 return including taxes

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Bit cross about Flybe, they claim to have flights from Sounthampton to Berne from £34.00 but the cheapeast flight I can find is £88.00 which is a bit of a difference

How about £440 return from southampton to chambery at half term? A bargain, or what?! Even mid week off season their flights are not cheap. Luckily I'm nowhere near the alps at half term but we have friends who want to go out to our apartment. But they can't afford those prices for a family of five! I'm trying to persuade them to drive.

Their prices are very disappointing - don't think that they could justify the title Low Cost Carrier On all the dates I've tried for Southampton-Chambery (midweek flights, throughout Jan, Feb and March) FlyBe are about the same price as flying from Gatwick to Geneva with BA, and about £10 cheaper than flying Heathrow-Geneva with BA.

Be aware that Flymaybe...whoops slight typo............ charge £20 a sector for skis and snowboards and charge for your bags as well. They also are a point to point airline so you can't check all the way through. To get to geneva from where we live involves 4 sectors with flybe so £80 a ski bag. Cheap it is not.

snowHeads are a friendly bunch.

maybe they've overcooked it? The cheapest return I could find for friends, Southampton - Chambery, Mondays in low season January, are £80, with no booked seats, skis, bags, etc. Better to drive up to Birmingham and get a cheapie to Geneva on BMI baby. This business responds quickly to demand, or lack of it. Maybe the prices will go down?

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Have been hunting round all the so called lo-cost airlines for January from Brum to Lyon/Chambery/Geneva, and they are definately all considerably more expensive than last year....Did find some 'free' flights to Geneva (with BMI I think) which only worked out at £52 each by the time taxes were added (Hmmm, free, eh?)
Have resorted to an old favourite - flying scheduled from Brum to Lyon with BA - barely noticeable difference in cost, more convenient flightimes, plus we can get the late flight back (22:20) which gives a full extra day on the slopes.....
Couldn't help but notice that Thomson have stopped flights from Coventry to Lyon, and are now flying to Grenoble instead, Saturdays only? Anyone know if this is correct? Is there going to be some more schedules to come?

You know it makes sense.

Guvnor, I thought the same last season as well - the lo-cost airlines from anywhere in the south east were not really cheaper than BA if you booked early, and had fewer timetabled flights so not so easy to fly out very early and fly back very late. The days when easyjet were considerably cheaper for me now seem to be a distant memory
