Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

La Plagne or L'Alpe d'Huez?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi all

I’m an intermediate skier, my husband an advanced. I don’t like moguls or slushy snow, due to bad knees.

Recommendations please: For 2 weeks over Christmas and New Year, Le Plagne (based in Pleisey Vallandry) or L’Alpes d’Huez?

Much appreciated & many thanks!

@zizi, …Peisey Vallandry is a nice location…lots and lots of choice…the village of Peisey Nancroix is a wonderful working village….with a wonderful cheese shop…and charcuterie…and boulangerie. There’s a lot more choice of terrain type at Les Arcs compared with L’Alpes d’Huez, and then over the Vanoise Express into La Plagne.

@zizi, welcome to SH's.

I know both ADH and Paradiski very well and ski for a week every Christmas.

TBH they are both good choices. Avoiding slushy snow is a bit tricky on account of it's down to the freezing level, not totally predictable or avoidable. That said less likely to be a problem at Christmas than later in the season. I would say the nature of it (direction slopes face, terrain) makes ADH slightly more likely.

Avoiding moguls is probably more about avoiding certain pistes. Paradiski particularly but not exclusively are classifying some pistes as "Natur" and leaving them unpisted. These I would suggest you would want to avoid as they are more likely to be mogully or slushy. The tree protected runs (either side of the VE) are great for poor vis days but their protected nature, if it does warm up, can make them slushy. Some of the steeper black pistes do get moguled.
