Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Skiing in California 22nd / 23rd April

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi All,

I’m at a loose end in SoCal on the weekend of 22/23rd April. With all the crazy snowfall over there this year, where’s the best place I can go skiing that is still open? Is it the 5-hour drive to Mammoth or is there somewhere closer?

I’ll have a 2WD rental car from LAX so it’s tricky re tyres etc!

Any help most appreciated Very Happy

@Ryanbakewell52, I don't expect you'll have a problem even if the rental car has summer tyres. Unless there are new snowfalls then the roads should be clear of snow. And Mammoth is certainly a good option as it's had Mammoth amounts Toofy Grin of snow. Someone I know reckons that Mammoth is planning on staying open until the start of August!

Mammoth is worth the drive over the more local options like Big Bear etc. Only real risk of weather is climbing up from Bishop. 395 between Mammoth and June can get stormed out quite badly.

Get some cables at somewhere you can return them like Walmart or keep a close eye on the forecast.
