Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Halifax clarity for ATM withdrawl

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Normally I just use my Revolut card to withdeaw €200 when I get on holiday to give us our needed cash.

However as we need to gice €200 cash deposit at accommodation, this leaves us with no extra. Even worse our left over cash from last time is being eaten into by youngest going off onto for a spanish trip where they aew expected to has cash with them.

I have a clarity card which looks like I can withdraw cash fee free abroad on paying interest until paid off. Just experimented and can pay money onto my card with 2hrs.

Anybody known if I were to withdraw cash, make payment straight onto card immediately for thw cash BUT not rest of balance if that would clear prevent it incuring interest? Or do I need to clear whole credit card balance?

I think you would need to call Halifax to specifically allocate the payment you made for the cash you have taken out. As much as i like the clarity card, have you though about setting up a starling account instead? Its really easy and quick to do on their app.

No, just paying off the balance of the cash withdrawal would do it as they allocate payment to the highest interest debt first.

I had to withdraw cash on my Clarity card in Turkey last year (as they really like cash in Turkey!) and did exactly what you describe and paid no interest.

@o11y, yes I am considering a bit of a overhaul as products have changed over the years but won't be doing it before we go out on 1st April.

Only just remembered about the cash deposit at accommodation thing as last time we went deposit went on the clarity card directly.

Also didn't think at all about daughters school trip compounding stuff....

I have always used my Halifax card to get cash abroad, I do make sure the balance is clear before leaving home then just clear it again when the payment comes through. I forgot last holiday as it had been so long since I had been abroad but the interest wasn’t very much.

Yes, can confirm that how it should work and how it’s worked in practice for me too.

If it’s just a one off, then probably not worth changing but I now use the Clarity card for larger card transactions and a Starling account and card for smaller card transactions and cash. Free to have, free to use abroad and can have a free euro account too (same card works for both). Euro account handy this year for paying damage deposit for accommodation.
