I know somebody who was in the queue when that happened...he got involved in first aid after.
Said it was horrendous.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

It looks absolutely horrendous....and sobering to think that operator error can cause it, on a modern lift, through not following correct safety procedures.

@Old Fartbag, it was a while ago but hadn't they removed a critical safety component? Or was that the Italian cable car thing?

You'll need to Register first of course.

This was several years ago. It was found that multiple failsafe safety devices had been disabled/removed to keep the lift running each time assuming that the other ones would work anyway... until there were none.

@under a new name, It was certainly the case that the Italian cable car incident was due to a disable failsafe component, yes. Criminal charges were brought, not sure of the final outcome.

Re Georgia that incident was terrible. One pregnant Swedish woman was involved - awful stress for her and her child; half of the skiers had serious injuries which required hospitalisation - ‘moderate’ injuries in medical parlance which are serious despite the feel of the term ‘moderate’.
Design and user error played a role.
