The long-range weather forecast for this week is very bad. Lots of heavy snow and poor visibility. Not ideal conditions for skiing. I am an older skier and nervous about accidents (I broke my leg last year!). How accurate are these forecasts? If the forecast is accurate is it likely that lifts will be closed? Some of the reports say 100% cloud coverage. I do have an option to cancel.

Welcome to Snowheads.
Heavy snow doesn't close lifts unless there is a significant avalanche risk. Strong winds are usually the main reason that lifts close. At least Meribel valley has some tree runs, so they would provide better visibility in bad weather.

Are you staying in Meribel, Mottaret or Meribel Village?
All I would add to @Bergmeister’s post is that there is some tree cover in your valley to provide some shelter and, of course, the all important definition in flat light / snowfall.
Truite (green), the Altiport runs, the lovely Lapin (blue) are all superb areas to build your confidence back. Hopefully, the new snow will also improve the cracking Folyeres down to La Tania (which was a bit sketchy last week). And, of course, you can venture further out into the Courchevel valley for more tree-lined skiing.
Personally, I would stick with it. Enjoy.

I also agree with all that franga has said.
The Meribel Altiport area is fantastic for getting your confidence back and the tree cover really helps.
You can progress a little further up on the lifts once you've got your ski legs back too.
Take it easy, cruise along and enjoy. You'll have a great time!

@Baroda32, the forecast will change A LOT between now and 13th March! I'd love to be wrong as I am out in Austria the week after but I doubt you'll have 6 days of heavy snow and poor visibility.

Agree with earlier comments. The probability of several days regular snowfall is low (though not unheard of).
If it does snow you’re well positioned in the 3V. Do you know which part of the Meribel valley you’re staying in? The name of a nearby piste maybe?
I’d also suggest sticking with it…but would probably swap with you should you decide to cancel

Just bumping this to see if you went? I was a bit concerned by the forecast but ended up with some of the best conditions I've ever skiied in! One stormy day with a lot of snow where visibility was a bit reduced (but not enough to dissuade us skiing) and otherwise a lot of sun and fresh snow!

Yes we did go. Forecast was wrong! We were having a great time until someone clipped my husband’s skis and he fell and broke his arm teally sad as it wasn’t his fault. He is in a lot of pain. We returned one day early. Thanks for asking.
