Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Fugen to Kaltenbach lift link

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Does anyone know whether this link is going to happen. I have seen it on piste maps as planned (from top of Onkeljoch across to a ridge next to the Holzalm lift) but there is no date on it.

I have been considering a trip to Fugen for a year or two but wondered if it was worth holding off for this link, as it looks like it would vastly improve logistics. Or might it all be pie in the sky?

Thanks for any info.

Toofy Grin I wouldn't delay a trip on the basis of that link happening!
Planning was going well and then they couldn't get some of the permissions that they needed. So, they changed the plan and tried again. It's still up in the air. Half the people talking about it say the idea has been shelved, the other half say it's still going to happen but planning and permissions are a problem.
If it ever happens it will be a massive project - not only the lift from Onkeljoch to Wetterkreuzspitze, but also there will have to be a couple of lifts to replace the Wedelexpress (the coldest lift in the world! Laughing ) and to reach Wetterkreuzspitze from the other side.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thinking that's been on Piste maps for 10 years or so!!
On the plus point, don't not go because of it - it's a great area. Fugen is a stunning little village with a lovely little ski area, and the bus up to Hochfugen is easy / regular and short. Or jump on the free train to the other areas in the Zillertal.

Yes it looks great and I suspected the link wasn’t imminent as they hadn’t put a date to it. Just wouldn’t want to go next year and then discover the link was up the following year.
Anyway, as you say, the transport links all look pretty good.
I’ve actually found a decent looking place in Ried, with a bus to Kaltenbach, so Probably wouldn’t get to Fugen without the lift link.

There are no planned lifts listed on this page - doesn't mean that there aren't but it's generally a pretty good source

For example, Saalbach has one new and three planned lifts showing here

@EdYarker, apparently the folk who own the land at Fugen dont get on with the folk who own the land at Hochfugen / Kaltenbach, probably cousins and some family dispute going back decades Very Happy , neither side will make the necessary compromises to enable the project to go ahead, last I heard discussions were "ongoing"!

I like the fact there is no linking lift, means you have to make a bit more of an effort to get the Fugen, keep the crowds away Smile
