I have a self drive holiday booked for Tignes 1-8 April. I have the opportunity for a second week now. Albeit a cheap week.
I've looked at some of the bargain deals on sunweb. valmeiner and st francois longchamp are coming in at £4-600 for 2 adults accommodation and lift pass. Auris en orsans and vaujany for about £6-750. Although I have been reading that alp d huez is not ideal end of season?
I'd like to try some other mountain activities. Paragliding snow shoeing etc especially if late season conditions are less than ideal.
Only resort I will rule out is Val Cenis as I was there in January.
Budget including lift pass £850 max
I'm not sure when to book. I normally book all holidays months in advance Could I leave it untill I'm actually in Tignes? When is the best time to book for bargains?

All these deals are for south facing resorts so they are cheap for a reason.
Id book somewhere with high north facing slopes that week

Unfortunately the extra 700 euros for the lift pass breaks the budget a bit.
I didn't mention in my OP that I'll have to leave Tignes to drop friends at Bourg.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@Stuski, Stay in Tignes and drop your friends off and go back up the hill, or can they get a bus/ taxi? Tignes will be as good as anywhere that time of year. Or book in VT for a change of scenery, and go there after drop off in Bourg.

Les Arcs?
We've got a 2 bed apartment on VRBO for £368 for the 1st to 8th in 1800.
We've paid £880 for lift passes for 4 of us (Classique pass).
Adult passes are €295 which works out around £265 each for a six day pass.
This is ours. However, as its just two adults, presumably you don't need a second bedroom, which drops the price considerably.
Check out this Vrbo rental:

This one is on at £227 for the week.

Beauty is, you're already in the area, so those expensive extras such as petrol and crossing have already been absorbed. I don't think you'll struggle to be honest. I'm very jealous!

@Stuski, Doing the other activities that you mention will very quickly make the cheaper resort more expensive than just another week skiing in Tignes. I would have thought that a qualified guide for for either activity would set you back about 350 euro for the day so you really don't need to be doing very much of either before your budget is destroyed. Some resorts do offer group snow shoe outings which are cheaper but a couple of group outings will quickly add up, especially if you also have a 6 day lift pass. If you were set on other activities, you could combine Bessans for xc ski with Bonneval sur Arc for some very cheap alpine skiing and showshoeing, I don't know if you visited either in January

This was my thinking. Friends have decided to visit family in Toulouse for the second week of the Easter Holidays. Allowing the surprise extra week

Very valid point I hadn't considered those activities would be so expensive. We skied all the resorts on our trip in January. Highly recommended to. Will visit again in the future.

Thank you that looks interesting how does the skiing compare to la flat sorry la plagne? I did a season many years ago when the vanoise was broken. So never got Les arcs.

@Stuski, I would endorse Les Arcs too, 1800 particularly but doesn't matter too much.
Quite a contrast to most of the others (LP La Ros Tignes etc) in that its fairly compact but with huge variety of pitches, aspect and interest.
Likely anywhere is going to need ski/techniques for fairly soft conditions overall if temperatures don't change much to season ending.
No need for Vanoise Express unless you particularly want it, save the cash and stay in LA. You can move around from one aspect to the other really quickly here, and so seek the conditions you most desire. Straight from 1800 you can take one lift direct to 2000 bowl via "transarc" gondola, 3~4 different routes back over ridge toward 1800 to give variation too.
There's no real schlepping around its all interconnect on interesting piste.

@Stuski, La Plagne have an offer for that week (sublicimes) from 450 euros a person which includes accommodation, lift pass and ski hire. The price probably depends on how many people are staying in the accommodation.
I've only seen it advertised on a table mat in a restauarant the other day but I expect you can find more details here - https://www.laplagneresort.com/great-deals/sublicimes?lang=en_US

Worth consideration is Ste Foy@Stuski, again as contrast to Tignes. Generally holds snow well with reasonable altitude. Pass cost good, snow shoe seems good too. About 30 mins to Villaroger lift to spend a day in Les Arcs to sample that too.
We booked once, while staying in Ste Foy to get apartment in Les Arcs at the end of that week, then just drove across there on Saturday morning, all of an hour to get to 1800 apartment was on late discount by then too.

Outlyer for consideration, Praz D Lys near Les Gets. Not too high and gamble on snow etc, cost really good generally for pass and food. Good snow shoe possibility with level-ish route connection to Sommand village on the other side of ski area. Very very relaxed atmosphere, cross country routes plus kit hire quite prominent there too. Smells of sweet pine as temperature rises, lovely outlook as well.

I love PdL/Sommand - the Sommand side for its slopes, the PdL side for the amazing views. But in April, given the choice, I'd choose Tignes over it. Or Les Arcs.

Drop mates of in BSM, use supermarket to get receipts for Ste Foy (if that's still a thing - ask on the Tignes thread in Snow reports forum), go back to Tignes. Have a day out in Ste Foy.

I'm taking the family to les deux alpes the same week. Its not for everyone as its an upside down resort. Easy blues and reds up high and the blacks lower down. But for the young kids it's great.
Guaranteed snow at 3200m in the glacier. If it's slush lower down the gondola offers an efficient download.

I don't think they would be. A "bapteme" paraglide (ie a flight with an instructor, you are just a passenger) would certainly not cost 350 though if you actually wanted lessons to learn to fly yourself, that's a serious undertaking, and costly. And, in that area, best undertaken down in Annecy, not up in a snowy resort). Most resorts have marked snow shoe trails, you can rent snowshoes very cheaply and you just need stout sort of walking boots to strap them to. You could walk on your own if you were sensible about sticking to open paths, and group outings (the ski schools probably arrange some) are not particularly expensive.

We went to Alpe d'Huez last week of March five years ago. For a supposedly sunny/snowy resort, we saw a whole load of snow but no sun!

Personally, I would wait until much nearer the time to see what the snow conditions are like.
With this long dry spell things aren't looking too great but that could all change late on and really open up the options for you.
It seems you have the ultimate flexibility and for that week there will always be good accommodation options available.
