Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

More 1950s skiing

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I recently posted a video clip showing some skiing scenes from the 1950s which got quite a few comments. Here's another clip from 1958, this time from a film featuring Olympic champion skier Toni Sailer. Incidentally Sailer's Olympic racing career ended somewhat prematurely as the fact that he had been paid for appearing in several skiing films and had received sponsorship money from ski manufacturers caused him to fall foul of the then existing 'Amateur' regulations.

 Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

That’s great.

I (almost) remember the days of snow down to the valley floor, no crowds and untracked powder. Ho hum…

 Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@Alastair Pink, I trump your 1958 with a 1943 !

I would happily trade modern equipment/clothing for skinny wooden skis and wooly knickers if I had those conditions. Even the single chair looks fun.

They look just like those we were using in Niseko a few weeks ago. They are remarkably comfortable.

BTW how did you know they wore wooly knickers? Was there some more intimate part of the film I missed.

I presume @Pasigal wasn't using the word "knickers" in the British meaning of an item of underwear but rather the American meaning of knickerbockers i.e britches. Madeye-Smiley

^^you've outed me @Alastair Pink!

Yes, was thinking of plus-fours? Is that what you call them? Although I'd also wear a pair woolly women's knickers to get a bluebird day in the Dolomites with no crowds and tea dancing!
