 Poster: A snowHead

My son has recently acquired POC Zonula Clarity goggles (very impressed with these) and I'd like to buy him a MIPS helmet to replace the rather battered one he's worn for years.
I'm looking at the Fornix or Obex. Has anyone tried on both? It needs to be online or it will never happen.

I had Fornix (non-mips) before, and current ski touring/freeride helmet is Obex Mips. They are both good, but I somehow prefer Obex, as it feels a little more closed and more like hardshell which I'm using for alpine (Skull Dura comp). But Fornix and Obex have different fit, so it really depends on head shape. Oh and I really don't like MIPS sh**it, as it's anoying plastic, which in my mind doesn't really do much for snow sports except giving you hard time getting helmet on on top of climb and you are sweating (maybe having more hair would help  ).

How so, which favours what sort of head?
This thread is great, I am a Zonula Clarity user and am after a new helmet as well and not sure to go Fornix or Obex.

Fornix definitely fits nicer on my sort of head, whatever that would be. You would expect that one company has sort of same fit/shape/pattern through the line, but at least with POC it really isn't so. While my previous GS helmet (Skul Orbic Comp) and current Skull Dura comp fit great, and Fornix fitted nicely too, Obex is not that great, but it still goes for me regarding fit, but their old helmets I had Receptor Bug/Sinuse were really really bad for me.

Like @primoz, I used to have a Fornix (non-mips) and when it got battered, I bought an Obex MIPs (this season). I've got a fairly narrow and long head. I'd say the Fornix was a slightly better fit; at least to begin with. The MIPs seems to to reduce the volume slightly - I'm right at the top of medium and the Obex squeezed my forehead a little but after a few days of use seemed to wear in and I don't really notice it now. As a helmet, the Obex is 'better' - adjustable venting and the fit system has more adjustment.

Hi, I previously had an Fornix XS/S which I loved but was old and had many bashes...
I am at the top of the XS/S size and as it does compact, perfect after a few wears.
I ordered through Snowleader online both models in the same size XS/S - I found the Fornix too tight (probably due to now having MIPS from my old one) and the Obex a perfect fit (and in fact preferred the shape). I have a longish/narrowish face -female.
I sent the Fornix back - had to pay for postage to send back but due to the cost of helmets was worth it, and great to compare both (and no travel expenses running around shops). I found the chain shops stocks appalling...
I got my refund ok - process was very painless (which is not always the case online).
So, my point its after reading the other threads we are all unique and you do need to try a few!

Its reasonable to discuss these issues.
My guess is that the vast majority of people put a helmet on and have no idea what a rotational injury is, they just expect it will help them if they fall over and dunt their head.
Not sure how well it translates, but it also seems to pose the question about how improved carving skis now allow people who dont have solid technique to "go faster" which results in more crashes.
Cant really argue with that, there are stories here every year of numbskulls out of control who hit other skiiers.
I had a conversation just last night with a friend whos daughter was on her first skiing holiday (with her boyfriends family) in St Gervais and after 4 lessons they were taking her "down black runs" like she had it nailed.

It is ironic, that when starting out, you can often judge your progress by the colour of the run you managed to get down (ie. survive without falling). When you become more accomplished, you realise just how irrelevant (and probably detrimental) that is.

Thanks everyone for the input. They do indeed seem to be quite different shapes internally, with the Obex fitting him much better. I think he has a rounder head! He's grumbling quite a lot about discomfort of the MIPS addition though - hopefully he'll get used to it.

My Obex BC MIPS arrived today, I put it on and my wife laughed at me and said I looked a bit special!  (I did go for the AVIP version)
It fits well with the Zonula Clarity googles which is a plus as my previous helmet didn't
