Few mates from the race club were out, and go every year. One picked up an injury freeskiing earlier in the week, so couldn't race. Might try and get out there with them next season for some fun.

Wow.
Does he have a thick moustache and wear a red beret and dungarees?
My thighs were burning by the end of the second minute, just watching it

I think I did 16 Infernos, never fast enough to get proper points so no reward other than the fun of it. I reckon I've lost my bottle now though!!

Cool video, do they get to practice course prior to, or straight into it with no sightings?
Is this the one "chimney allsocks" did on the telly within the last couple of years.

@ski3, you get to run the unprepared course thru Friday till e.g. 15:00 (depends on prep). iirc Shimmy did it a few years ago.

At least they'll have the course cadence and approaches sorted out to those blind-ish corners then

I think that on the Inferno day a skier is set off every 30 seconds or something like that.
Given this person is FAST and overtakes nobody I'd suggest this is Skier No1, probably a famous ex elite racer?

Nah. By my reckoning about 20% of recreational skiers claim speeds as high or higher, so this guy is quite slow really. Clearly lots of one week a year skiers can do better on normal pistes (blue ones mostly).

You know it makes sense.

Title of the video is "Inferno rennen (Downhill/Abfahrt, about 7,5 km) 2023 start number 69" so i'd guess they're starter number 69

Are participants expected to gain air at any point? Or is it pretty much always in contact with snow?

@B1g_browner, More or less. Technically you need to qualify but I know quite a few british skiers (myself included, albeit for version 2000) who just apply early enough. Or you can get yourself into teh Kandahar club who have an allocation due history.
@rungsp, Every 18 seconds last time I did it. The first 50 or 60 racers are from the back of the pack (generally the slowest) and forerun the course. Once they've cleared (or been escorted off if really slow) the actual racers start, in seed order.

Mental, I would never be equipped to take it on, but the fact that it is open to non pro's is very cool. Bound to be some rather large incidents involving amateurs?

Did it in 2017 - brilliant fun. First thought on finishing was that I'd like to do it again. You just know that you could do it quicker now you know what to expect. I had an early start time, which probably helped although it was very cold. Only time I've ever worn a catsuit (borrowed off a friend).
Tracked down my Strava and see I hit 97.9km/h - probably should have tried a bit harder!
