Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Val Thorens restaurant suggestion

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
hi all, will be going to VT for the first week of Easter with my two daughters and one of my mates and his two lads.

we will be mainly self catering

i know it is some time away, but am looking for some recommendations for some eateries. we have skied together before in les menuires and have had a few meals at the La Ruade restaurant which has a Savoyard type menu, with raclette/hot stone options.

am looking for somewhere similar to eat in VT when we visit, as we really enjoy the social side of the evening, and it also takes me back to my days taking guests from Meribel to the (old) La Plantin restaurant on the way to La Tania, on the staffs weekly night off for a raucous evening.

i have not stayed in VT in over 25 years, but when i last stayed there it was on "boys trips" and most evenings were spent in the frog and roastbeef pub Laughing Laughing Laughing

i have looked at the restaurants on the VT tourist office site, but cannot seem to find any with the above type of menu.

cheers

@terrygasson, this has a good summary, breaking down which restaurants have savoyarde specialities (fondue, raclette, tartiflette etc). There's also a handy map.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I was impressed by the one in Orelle last time we were there. At the bottom next to the lifts, but use the table-served side rather than the self-service section (different door, might have to wait for a table though I guess you can book ahead). Excellent food, not expensive.

The American restaurant is nice. Great burgers and even better steaks. Its very cramped in there so be prepared to sit on some random geezers lap
