Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

UCPA Argentiere vs Chamonix

 Poster: A snowHead

I’m a college student from the states studying abroad in Luxembourg for spring semester and want to ski. My spring break is March 18-25 and I was planning on doing a ski trip with UCPA. I’ve grown up skiing in Utah so experience isn’t an issue but looking for information relating to these two UCPA centers since they have an under 25 deal with 6 days of skiing. That have access to the same areas but I was curious about which center I should choose? Does one cater to a younger crowd? Is one better for apres or solo travelers? I saw Argentiere was renovated a few years back while Chamonix hasn’t been. Any thoughts or guidance is appreciated!

Of all the UCPA centres I’ve visited Argentiere is certainly the quietest. Its a great centre with good rooms and a nice bar but the crowd is older and the focus more on the mountain activities than the apres. I haven’t been to the Chamonix UCPA, so can’t make a direct comparison, but Chamonix is a much bigger / livelier town.

Would have thought that by end March Argentiere (North facing) would have the best conditions and so being based there would mean less travel on the buses?

Have visited both. As above, better social and apres in Chamonix. Argentiere attracts better skiers, who have come to ski, and you’re closer to Grand Montets ski area (which is where the business happens). Food is always amazing and plentiful, whichever you choose.

Been to both. Chamonix centre is in town more convenient to access more resorts but there isn't one on your doorstep. Apres and food all good. Access to chambre neuf etc if you like that. Argentiere near to the resort further to access some areas. Train ride to some areas. Apres and food good again. More serious skiers here but still a good mix of young and old. More things going on here at night like quizzes and such. I'd defo go back to Argentiere UCPA not that fussed on Chamonix UCPA.
