Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Back injury, cancelling a trip and insurance

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
After re-injuring my lower back/pelvis the new physio tells me - after a different diagnosis from the first injury - it could be a disc injury and if so it may be 1-2+ months for recovery. The first incident was in late August and I was back to normal within 1-2 weeks but this time it's already been 3 weeks and the pain has been worse. Same area . Hopefully I'll make a sooner recovery than advised but either way, that puts a snowboarding trip I have booked 10th December at risk. The heavy feeling is dawning on me that I should probably call off the trip, better to miss out than risk making an injury worse.

It's not clear to me whether my travel insurance covers me to either cancel the trip (now or in the run up) or if I'd be covered if I was fit to go and subsequently reinjured my back, requiring curtailment, assistance to return home or medical care in France. What's more, I was in the process of planning other trips this season so not sure where I stand if things still aren't 100% by then. I'll have to speak to them but wanted to get an idea here first in case anyone's been in a similar situation or has any specific advice.

I probably have 3 main options,
- assuming the physio will provide paperwork for the claim, if I make a fast recovery she might not do so, but I could still currently (next few days) get just under half my money back if insurance rejects.
- Cancel in the coming weeks when it becomes clearer, I'll have time to at least ask for paperwork in the next physio appointment, but i'll lose the ability to be refunded most aspects. Insurer might say I should have cancelled sooner and only cover what was uncancellable when I knew.
- In the last 10 days, if I'm recently fit then physio might be reluctant to provide formal confirmation of fitness so soon given original prognosis. If unfit, and a claim was rejected I'd also not get any refund. But if I'm well enough to at least travel I could travel lighter without equipment, still go to resort and potter for a week so it wouldn't be a total waste although I probably wouldn't bother.

There's a element of me venting in this post, obviously disappointed that I'll likely not be able to go. Sorry for rambling and although you won't get that time back, thanks for reading.

@silentice, I would imagine your physio can’t give a formal diagnosis and you will at least need to see your GP …

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Bad luck - you must be fed up. I think I'd speak to the insurance company sooner rather than later. Explain the dilemma - just be honest. Once you start being economical with the truth you'll get lost! You are expected to do what you can to minimise your losses.
