Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Saslong Run Open during world cup week?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hey guys,

Heading to Val Gardena 2nd week of December. The Ski World cup starts on the 15th December. At what point do they close the run to prepare it? - I'm just super keen to know if I'll be able to ski the run in the first few days!

@geomar, I think it wouldn't take more than a week to prepare the course for the World Cup, so I expect it will be open for several days after you arrive. Very Happy

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Having stayed there several times in early to mid-December, I have never seen the race slope itself open before the races. However, there are sections of runs largely parallel with the race track which remain open.

Ahhh that is a shame! Ski from the 11th, so holding out a little hope, but my first thought is that it'd be closed. Looking forward to the parellel run either way Wink

If they opened the run before the race, it would be carnage. Toofy Grin
You'd be able to stand and watch for an hour and get enough footage for "You've been framed" to pay for your next few year's skiing. Laughing Laughing

It would be pretty hairy for the next few days after the race, until they could get enough cover on the ice to made it skiable to even above average punters.

If you get a chance to try it later in the week, update us with a video link please.

Tbh, looking at the forecasts, I'm a little concerned about whether we're going to be able to ski at all, let alone the Saslong...

Temperatures finally look to be dropping next week. They’ll probably need a couple of weeks of snow making conditions to get the Saslong into competition condition. Other runs won’t need as much given the grassy base. Hopefully temps and humidity will be low enough for long enough and they will have enough water and can afford the electricity to make their snow before the season is due to start on the 3rd December in the Alta Badia.
Still haven’t seen the usual ‘Super Dolomiti’ pre season newsletter yet, though I did come across reference to a short new black slope that has been cut through the trees above st Viglio. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=pfbid02xvUczQ56u5HRZ5DqsAau2Wq5WU6VWtUiuhqLR3hG9xUcLg5PdxDzqmjJ6wLvdgc5l&id=100063722582526
