Poster: A snowHead

Hi! I joined this group to ask a specific question. I'm not sensitive, so if it's totally ridiculous, do let me know. I am a middle-aged intermediate female skier. I'm randomly looking at the Atomic Bent Chetler Mini ski, but in size 163cm. It looks like my Marker Squire binding will fit this ski (brake width, etc.) and these skis look comparable in weight to my previous Rossignol pair that I had in 158cm. But they are kids' skis, should I avoid this? From what I can tell, there is metal underfoot. I just love the style, graphics, etc. I'm 5'6", prefer to ski a shorter more playful ski and stick mainly to blue runs at the resort. I ski at moderate speeds and prefer to just be out on the slopes more for the Vitamin D in winter, LOL, in between hot chocolate breaks.

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

@jacpuett, welcome to SHs
TBH, skis have no idea who you are but they do know what you weigh. Atomics site says these are aimed at 8-13 yos who, in my experience, are rather lighter than middle aged folks (I certainly was) and they have 90mm waists and a lot of rocker which is not optimal for intermediate piste skiing.
Not a great choice in my opinion, I'm afraid.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Okay, thank you. I weigh 129 lbs, but certainly I want the ski that is going to suit my needs. I'll look at the Atomic Bent Chetler adult skis, I might have to go with a men's shorter version. Some sites say the Atomic 100 Bent Chetler adult ski in men's is actually not gender specific. Thank you so much!

You need to Login to know who's really who.

They also ski very short on piste due to the tip and tail rocker, so you need to go longer than normal

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I think they’ll be fine if you’re not smashing them

@under a new name, depends on the ability of the skier a lot would find 74 too narrow for off piste work, indeed the Basi courses are now say just under 80mm for piste work never mind of the side and back

My 12yo smashes it on skis like that so I don’t see the problem for someone only 10kg heavier skiing in a more relaxed style. I mean they are 1450g for the 163 which is only 100g lighter than my 184cm 112mm waisted DPS Pagoda Tours.
And 13m radius will be absolutely fine pootling about on piste.

@BobinCH, maybe, just don't seem optimal for the requirements.
Mind you, when primary criterion is colour ...
