Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Eating early is the best idea - if you start at crack of lift you'll be ready to stop by 1130. Then ski right through lunchtime when a lot of skiers are crammed uncomfortably into the restaurants.

An early start should do it. A lot of people arrive around 9-9.30 in order to get their kids to ski school. Once on the mountain it won't seem crowded, except on the pistes lapped by beginners in ski school. (These resorts don't tend to be as bad as the Tarentaise, where there can be long lift queues at multiple points on the mountain).

The other crunch points will be mountain restaurants for lunch. Not too bad if you stop early (around midday), or alternatively take a snack with you to keep you going till the afternoon (there are outside picnic tables for good weather, and some indoor picnic spaces too; "salles hors sac"). Or you can phone a restaurant in advance to make a reservation.

How soon in advance should you make a reservation?

I've always just gone early or late to avoid the crowds, but it might be nice to eat lunch at lunchtime for a change!

Make a reservation as soon as you think of it - but some ordinary sort of places won't take reservations because of the aggro caused when there are hungry diners stooging round looking for somewhere to sit when there are "reserved" signs on a table. Posh places more likely to take reservations, I guess.

The time when all the restaurants empty out and the afternoon ski school classes start is the very worst time of the day in French resorts during those February holidays. Probably not helped by the fact that lots of people will be half-cut.
