Poster: A snowHead
|
I've got a trip planned to Avoriaz in January, staying in an apartment just opposite the top of the Prodains Cable car. There's a Skimium shi shop called Avoriaz sports just next to the apartment block, but their prices are really high, their 'Emotion' pack, which seems equivalent to the 'black' packs at other shops is €200 for 6 days. There's a sport 2000 shop called prodains sports at the bottom of the cable car, which charges just €132 for the same tier of ski.
Has anyone had experience with either of these shops? Is there a reason that the skimium shop is more expensive (better quality skis maybe?)?
If there's no real reason for the price hike I think I'd probably just pop down the cable car on the morning of the first day to collect skis from the shop at the bottom, and then can ski down to drop them off before getting the lift back up at the end of the week.

The skimium shop is next to your apartment and the other one is a schlep (but not too bad). Its a cost v convenience choice.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Our local Skimuim franchised shop is offering Emotion pack for 143 EUR online vs 200 EUR in store.
So 200 seems to be the std Skimium price point for the Emotion pack.

Is there an online discount for Baud Sports in Avoriaz?

There's no shortage of ski hire shops in Avoriaz, though from that location probably best to avoid the ones up north of the 'centre' of town. That still gives you Avoriaz Sports as your closest (friends used them last half term and they were really helpful and friendly, even when popping back in to change boots and I couldn't find anything to fault with their kit) or up the public lift in Residance Hauts Forts you have Ski Shop (I think still independent/family run and not cheap but an option if you like to support the little guy rather than the corporate players). Follow the road that loops around Ski Shop and you find yourself at the bottom of the 'centre' of town and all the usualy suspects. None of these are more than 5 minutes walk from where iit sounds like you're staying.

Avoriaz Sports have always been great for us .. good service & even free mid week swaps. Staff experienced and helpful.
Usually book through central website .. check Google for discount codes & membership at Decathlon get a further 5 or 10%off
Maybe too early for broad discounts .. wait a few weeks

Have used Avoriaz Sports a number of times and they are great but last time they suggested that we email them directly for a price rather than go through Skimium and it would be cheaper. May be worth a go.
