Bit of an aside, but I was watching a bit of the FIS Ski-Cross racing from last weekend on Eurosport, and everyone has shifted to wearing catsuits. Now, as far as I remembered they used to have a bit of a rule that you couldn't wear speed clothing, I know you skier-types have a bit of a thing for a spandex onesie but I can't see the snowboarders following suit...

Why would that rule have even been in place? And surely hard to police as tricky to define what was or wasn't such clothing?
Are the Eurosport commentators sponsored by Stockli too? Seemed to mention them enough.

It was all to do with when Ski and snowboard cross came under FIS jurisdiction when it came into the olympics. As it fell under the Freestyle discipline flag, the competitors at the time didn't want it becoming a 'speed' event, so there was a rule that you had to be able to grab a handful of clothing. Looks like that has dropped by the wayside.

Would have been a more interesting sport if you were also allowed to grab a handful of that clothing while racing.
I see one of the Szollos family is going last today at 67, I remember that name from the Olympics, might hang on to watch him if Eurosport stay with the race to the end.

@ster, reports that Sofia Goggia broke her left hand and/or wrist when it hit one of the gates on her run.

 You know it makes sense.

@Alastair Pink, so she seemed to be saying to another competitor at the bottom with her hand all taped up. Had swollen up as soon as she’d got to the bottom. I assume thats her out for a bit.
Conditions even worse now!

Fractured the second and third metacarpals of her left hand and is having surgery in Milan in order to try and start in tomorrows race!

@holidayloverxx, thanks, they just said on the commentary that it's on the Gran Risa slope (looking on the piste map seems to be black piste 17 which as you say ends down in La Villa).

Wow. Goggia is hard as nails.
I wonder if Robinson is going to start building on the early promise she showed last season and start to finish up in the business end.

A Belgian second (at the moment)! Is Belgium second only to the Netherlands in its lack of mountains. (Not a spoiler as I don’t think he’ll still be second by the end)

We're nearby with a hire car, but it'll be our last day skiing. Do we sacrifice skiing to watch the race instead!? Tricky decision

If you've not seen the downhill before then yes, definitely. Bear in mind that downhills get cancelled for weather, so keep plans flexible. Also, traffic and parking will be busy. Could train in.

Not surprised at all as you could see at the start of the season his heart wasn't in it. My guess was that it was maybe sponsors pushing him for another season.
What a career though!

I haven't seen so many slalom poles ping out of their moorings during one of these races before, really bad luck for the skier where an uprooted pole seemed to follow him down and get under his skis.
