Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

BMI & ski baggage?

Has anyone flown to the US with BMI?

If so what is the ski allowance?

As I just rang the customer helpline number with a question about taking a pair of skis to the US that are larger than 158cm (max height), and was told that they won't be able to take them.

This can't be correct can it?

From the BMI website:

Quote:
Exceptional items of baggage on long haul flights, if within the baggage allowance will be carried free of charge. If the item is outside the baggage allowance the item is charged per piece at the same rate as excess baggage (see below).

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Alastair, I read that aswell, but got conflicting advice from the person on the help line.
I would assume that you are correct, but I'll phone the head office to get clarification.

There is a 2** addition to the economy Manchester hold luggage ** max dimensions (length + width + height) of each piece should not exceed 158 cm (62ins). I guess this has caused the confusion (well for me anyway and the helpline).

Thanks

shouldn't be a problem taking skis longer than 158. Flying from Manchester Long Haul you should be allowed 2 bags at 32 kilos each. Stuff your ski bag with as much clothing as you can. Carriers take laods of skis everyday. I reckon any bag up to 2m long they wouldn't even flinch at.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I've just contacted the head office and my first assumption was correct, that you can take skis larger than 158 if they are within the weight allowance.
