Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

@Layne, yes! We had pencilled in sources too as I read somewhere that’s a good one. Go down to Champagny first, then come back up and do Sources.
Will definitely do Pierre Blanches on the way back, but not before doing the fun run - apparently Europe’s longest!

does anyone know if you can ski down from the Jardin Alpen lift over towards ski school ? it looks like there's a blue in that direction, if I'm reading the map right, which is not one of my key skills ! that lift looks closest to the mercure where we are staying.

Though I've never done it I think you can ski from the top of the Jardin Alpin lift to the bottom of the Vagere lift (I think that is the ski school meeting point. )

excellent, that would be good if you can, although that lift doesn't seem to open to 915 and ski school starts at 9 rather than 930 during half term week. hopefully lifts open ealier too.

The jardin alpin lift is almost entirely used at the start of the day with people catching the navette from pla devin and from the lower accommodation from arc 1800. I've only skied down to it once when I got lost trying to find the aiguille grive hotel. It links naturally to the charmatoger lift and in the distant past the grand renard (long deceased)

They were sweeping out the AG cable cars and tidying the station last thing today so hopefully it'll be go tomorrow.
Awesome day today. Finally the sun came out, and even though the temp was super low it was great in the sunshine. Got 1st tracks down fond blanc, and there is still loads of powder left. Now it's time for a beer.

Went over to La Plagne today, fantastic views but super cold.
Some bottlenecks on the lifts, particularly Crozats as Salla was shut. The gondola to Roche was a bit slow too.
Unfortunately les bois was closed but we did Levasset which was fun, but there were some flat sections.
The highlight was Sources, a great run.
Pierres blanches on the way back is very good, thanks for the tip on that.

@viciousvulture, Crozats having a queue is unusual but then Salla being closed is probably why. Gondolas and most lifts are running at least 10% slower to save electricity for the Nation - apparently skiers won't notice! Many lifts are running at a lower speed and it certainly is noticeable. Sources always a reliable great run and in great condition this season.

@viciousvulture, glad you enjoyed Sources/PB.

Salla is a bit slow/old (I rarely use it) and Crozats is an upgraded 6-man so surprised it was queuey, even with Salla closed.

I virtually never use the gondola to Roche either. Sooner go up Blanchets/Carella.

The runs down to Champagny will have been bombed out with the early season conditions so I suspect they aren't quite good enough to open yet. I've not skied Les Bois often but it's a nice run when open.

Yes - I believe it is possible, but to be honest it won't help you from the Mercure as it is not easy to reach the base of this lift as far as I know. There is no route to ski there, and it's a tricky walk down a road which is actually more difficult than walking across to ski school from the Mercure. The closest lift to the Mercure is Charmettoger, which is a relatively easy uphill walk. However, this lift opens late and is long and slow, so no chance of getting to ski school this way. The other option, which I've never actually tried, is to book ski school in Vallandry and ski down the blue traverse which requires a bit of poling but involves no lifts.

I saw last night that around 30 people had to be rescued from the Funni, some interesting pictures on Facebook.

Looks like Bus shuttles until Friday at the earliest, although lots of the shuttle buses are already being used as replacements following the train accident.

Hope they sort both out before Saturday.. Imagine the carnage Shocked

When the ski hire guy told me this when I hired skis this morning I thought he was taking the wee wee because if the train situation. He was not.

Getting the bus from the funicular base to Arc 1600 was much more civilised than the scrum to get on buses to Bourg at Albertville train station last night.

At least it was a lovely day for skiing Very Happy

Despite the hassles it’s still been great. I’d rather have the bus trip and sunny, cold weather with decent snow as it’s been than the funicular running but low vis and high wind or spring temps. I really can’t complain. Well apart from bussing it there and back makes for a very long day and I’m totally exhausted by the time I get back to my hotel after skiing.

I’ve hit a few ice patches but overall it’s fine. I wouldn’t worry too much.

They were much better at the beginning of the week but still good. The steeper pistes are scraped by 2pm and the rest gets a bit choppy but they are much better then they were this time last year.

I hear one of the replacement busses caught fire in town yesterday.

Does anyone have any insider information on the supposed lift operator strikes during Feb? Am reading a number of online press articles about it, but some suggest practical impact will be minimal.

@yllen, the impact will be minimal.

There was a post on Facebook La Tania page this morning containing a message from the prefect to that effect.

Lovely weather this weekend in Peisey - as expected nicely cold and crispy morning (hence heading to the Arcabulle side), but when the sun hit the Vallandry side it became gorgeous as usual.

Shame about the (relative) lack of snow in lower areas, but a few cms expected this week.

We'll be back in Portes du Soleil and hope for snow too.

@Raven, According to the Bourg St Maurice Mairie facebook page the funicular opened again on Friday evening.
We drove round on Sunday and took it up to Arc 1600, everything seems back to normal now.
Plenty of people coming down with suitcases yesterday afternoon so I assume they were off to catch the train home.

Does anyone have any knowledge of the current presence of NewGen in Vallandry?
We have looked out for 'them' on the slopes to no avail......
Following the last few years one is always fearful that things have changed.....
Any info would be much appreciated.

Yes we had looked - but really wanted to find out if 'JT' was still about.
As others have said, he is to be highly recommended & we try to make personal contact.
