Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Booking Ski/Snowboard carriage

Has anyone got experience of booking ski carriage with BA? Looking at booking a holiday next winter and BA are flying from Southampton which is very close and would make life much easier than having to go up to Gatwick (although we make it part of the trip by going up the night before). Only problem is when going through the booking it looks like you can't book any ski/board carriage. One company has said that it can be booked via ba.com 60 days before departure.

We always take our own snowboard so its not an optional part of the trip for us so not sure if I want to be booking a whole holiday if we can know for sure the board bags will get there.

Anyone had experience of taking skis / snowboard on BA - Did it work well? Every been told they are full and can't take them?

@Rob_Quads, when i flew back from geneva with BA at christmas, my ski bag was within the maximum hold baggage allowance size. so you just book as many hold bags that you require, and if one of them is a ski bag then that counts.

unlike squeezy etc where you have to book a ski bag at a higher cost.

my tip would be to book a seat that includes one hold bag (skis), then a maximum size overhead carry on bag to maximise the luggage you take, you also are allowed to choose your seat for free.
this is what i did, and at the time of booking i think it was only about £20 more than the cheapest standard fare.

Ski and snowboarding equipment
You can take skiing or snowboarding equipment as part of your checked baggage so long as the bag is within 190 x 75 x 65cm.

You don't need to let us know in advance that you are bringing a snow sports bag but, as these larger bags need individual handling, please get to the airport and check it in at least 90 minutes before your flight departs.

@Rob_Quads, are you booking direct with BA or a package holiday with BA flights? If it's the latter, it may be a BA charter flight so the experience and link above won't be relevant.

Its likely to be via a tour operator such as Crystal / Inghams. I don't think its a BA Charted flights as its being offered by multiple different companies (not just different sub companies)... just checked and it is on the BA site so looks likes just a tour operator buying seats rather than the plane.

Just makes me nervous booking the holiday without 100% assurance I will be OK although it sounds like it should be OK

@Rob_Quads, with BA scheduled flights people tend to take their skis/snowboard in a "coffin" bag with all their other gear as their normal hold luggage rather than booking separate ski carriage (which is expensive).

Yeah we normally do a combination of this, often end up with all the ski stuff in the board bad and "normal" clothes in a normal bag.. and a load of other bags for the kids Very Happy

You don't have to do this - as @terrygasson, said as long as it's less than 190 x 75 x 65 then it's counted as normal hold luggage.

Done it several times, just have to pick up from different carousel/bag zone.

@mozwold, isn't that what my post said? Puzzled

(Although, if the booking isn't direct with BA, it's worth confirming that the normal BA baggage allowance applies.)
