Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Car hire availability 2022

Morning all, does anyone know if and when Grenoble release car hire availability for December 2022? Current searches show no results so I'm wondering if they're holding back.

Europcar certainly are in Jan from Geneva. I wonder if it depends when they buy their new fleet of cars.

It's such a two-bit airport, maybe there aren't any rental cars?

I was looking for car hire there this winter as there were some very cheap flights. I couldn't find any either!

I think it must be a relic of the Covid closures, no-one has reopened...yet!

The airport website only mentions Avis:

(It is an awful place and I could well believe there aren't hire cars available.)

Do you need a car, or could you use a transfer company like Bensbus?

I looked for flights for Geneva and Lyon-both had quite a few options but the Geneva car hire was 4-5 x more expensive so took the Lyon flights; £120 v £500 for even the most basic car and in a quiet week.
I suspect the problem is getting the cars if they've sold off their previous stock during lockdowns to raise cash, and they now can't get new stock to replace them.
Agree that Grenoble is the most grim of the main Alps airports-having used Lyon a few times, I am increasingly liking it. Not too big to be chaotic, but not too small so it can;t cope with Saturday surges.

I didn't think Grenoble airport was that bad, even though I experienced my longest delay there, that was no fault of the airport.

It was certainly better than the old charter cattle shed at Geneva or the original scruffy terminal at Treviso. At least there's a big Super U Hypermarket just across the road.

Europcar have released winter 23 at GVA. C£55 a day in early Feb for a compact, £65 for an ID3 (our preference as you don’t need to take an EV back “full”).

Looked at prices in the US next winter. Eyewatering but interestingly one place I looked a 7 seat 4wd Yukon was the cheapest vehicle below even the smallest economy car. Presumably the algorithms are being influenced by a lack of demand for biggest gas guzzlers so might be a good time to hold a reservation if you're contemplating a big family+ gear+ kitchen sink trip.
