@BobinCH, does the Swiss Army actually provide skis for everyone doing military service? (Which I think is all males, though nowadays they have a choice to take on a civic role as an alternative). Or do they provide their own?
There is a long tradition. I have the Swiss Army knife that belonged to my great-uncle Fritz, whose military service exploits were good enough that he was called up during the First World War to be a member of the ski commandos. (Switzerland were neutral, but they mobilised their defensive forces in case of invasion).
