Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

@cagey,are there no bank details on it? IBAN and BIC for example? I would probably use Wise to pay the money across if there are.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@ster, it isn't usual (if you present your GHIC/EHIC/Carte Vitale) to be billed at the hospital. In my experience, you get sent it afterwards. I spent 4 days in hospital last month having an appendix op. I have received no bill yet from the hospital, although I did have to pay one at the GP surgery.

@Hells Bells, what a coincidence, I spent 6 days in Albertville hospital last summer also having an emergency appendix op.

Having forgotten to renew any private insurances, it was 120 euros to see the doctor in the medical centre and then 318 euros for the ambulance. Plastic card required! In hospital, I produced my EHIC a day or two after my op and they said we will send your NHS the bill. Also got a bill from the hospital at home in UK, about 3 months later, for 144 euros, and paid it online straight away. It was easy to follow their instructions from the web link on the back of the bill. Hope this helps the OP.

Great treatment from the French health service by the way!

@andy1234, fortunately no ambulance for me,although my travel insurance would have covered it. Hubby drove me there. At least I wasn't in there for 6 days, although I did have my Kindle with me.
I was very impressed with the treatment from Briancon hospital. Seen in A&E within 10 minutes of arrival shortly before 3pm, bloods taken and urine dipped, pain relief drip up and CT scan within less than 2 hours. I was tucked up in my own room in bed by 6 awaiting surgery.
