Poster: A snowHead

I've just purchased a Kunzmann sidewall remover (https://www.thepisteoffice.com/index.php/com-virtuemart/com-virtuemart-menu-categories/the-piste-office-store/edge-tools/sidewall-removers/kunzmann-standard-sidewall-stripper-detail). Rather embarrassingly, now it's arrived, I've realised I have no idea at all how to use it Can anyone enlighten me?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

That Swix video is awful video. Do not push a sidewall cutter as that's a recipe for disaster. They should be used with a continuous pull stroke just like when using a metal file on the side edge angle - as shown in the Datawax video.
Adjust the blade so it just cuts a sliver - you can use either the flat or curved blade (on the Kunzmznn Std cutter you rotate the blade 90 degrees to suit) to best match the existing sidewall profile.

@spyderjon, I think I'm being a bit dim, but I can't figure out how to use the Kunzmann std cutter. (I assumed incorrectly that Kunzmann would include instructions on the packet )
I can see it has a big black screw that adjusts how far the blade sticks down? And 2 brass grub screws? Do I need to adjust all 3 of these in some combination?
Am I aiming to just remove sidewall, or should I be removing any of the metal edge?
(Beer can be provided at the EoSB for answering all my dumb questions.)

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@sugarmoma666, it's a doddle to do but difficult to explain in words. Can you wait until the EoSB and we can set it up then?

@spyderjon, there are push-sidewall cutters No idea if the one in video is or not, but there's plenty of them that require push not drag.

I think the op needs to visually see in practise, that the sidewall may need trimming back as a 1st step so a file and file guide can be used on the metal edge as the 2nd step.... as Jon said in practise its easy to understand but in text possibly not.
He will know how the tool he sold to the op works best regards push me pull me etc
The you tube clips were for the op too check out and are best used on a old ski first.... as doing any of this is really just practise

Thanks for the offer, but I think I've mostly got it figured now, although still have a couple of questions.
Annoyingly, I found in the end that the file was catching on some damage further up the sidewall, which I've now sorted.

Glad you’ve sorted useage - fine adjustment allows just a sliver off each time, close the edge surface.
My kunzmann sidewall plane from Jon was bought from him when he was still doing Saturday courses in the garage - and is still doing a sterling job - serviced hundreds of skis. I now have two (one green one orange) so the blade is set differently on each - one for sidewall skis and the other set for cap. An additional ski-man chunky one is tedious to adjust but is good to have in the toolbox. Kunzmann much easier to adjust.
