Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)
Remember me:

Wider skis....maybe?

I'm in the middle of my ski trip and as is the usual thing at Easter there are loads of skis and boots in the sale. It's got me thinking again about some new skis ..... I do it every now and again but don't get any

I have some really nice Fischer AMCs but I'd really fancy some a bit wider under foot.

I can ski any type of piste until the cows come home but I shy away from off piste 'coz my skis aren't up to it' I figure if I had a pair of... say 90-100s.... I'd be more inclined.

Im 54, 5'10 and about 13st5 give or take.

I used to be clued up on Movement a few years ago but there are much more to go at...anybody got any thoughts

Any chance to try any ?

90 to 100mm under foot makes a sweet ski I feel, you don't need to go excessively long as they float more than narrower type (obviously Very Happy )
Probably around 175/180 full cambered- ish, and a little more leeway if rockered.

Nothing like trying something if you're there with available test/hire stock, it's a fairly big arena and spoilt for choice really. Even melt/slush/ chopped conditions become much more fun rather than feeling it's getting poor conditions, certainly into off piste introduction too.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

+1 to trying out a few. Go into a shop when it's not busy, explain that you are thinking about buying, and normally the shop will offset the cost of hiring vs purchase price if you decide to buy.

Pretty much every major brand does a decent ski in the 90-100 mm range, so explain what you're looking for and test at least a couple. Fun, even if you don't end up buying.
