Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi friendly and knowledgeable Snowheads people,

Searching the forum about Val Thorens parking, it's been mentioned a few times,  that in Les Menuiresin is a free one.

Could you guys confirm and advise on the logistics, please? We will be arriving (fingers crossed) on Saturday afternoon..

and

on the drive there where would be good place to do shopping for the week, roughly 1 - 2 hours before "you reached the destination" satnav announcement

thanks a lot

Monty

Plenty of free parking in les menuires, but depends where exactly you’re staying?

Big supermarkets in Albertville just off the road, or a carrefour in moutiers. The carrefour in les menuires itself is an ok size too (and lots of smaller Sherpas to fill the gaps)

We are staying in Val Thorens centre.
How easy/difficult is to get back to VT? I haven't found many buses runing between.

@MontyMM, for shopping there is a nice bakery in the rue du soleil. Great place to grab something for the slopes.

We park in Les Menuires and ski back to Val Thorens, via 2 lifts - either Doron and Mont De La Chambre chairs; or Reberty Chair and Bruyeres gondola. Both arrive at the summit of Mont De La Chambre, from where you have a choice of 5 runs to ski back to VT - 2 lovely blue runs, a black/blue combo or 2 red/blue combos.

Then, at the end of the trip, you can ski back to Les Menuires to the car. As it's downhill all the way you don't need a lift pass. wink

As well as the free bus, Altibus runs a service up the valley, costing about €10 pp. Details are available at Altibus.com. We have used them before and bought tickets just before travelling, from their ticket office in the bus station, opposite the leisure centre in Les Menuires.

If all else fails there's always the option of a taxi back to VT - not cheap (at €30) but still better than €80+ for parking in VT.

Only 5 a day... but the 9.55 bus works out well. The police are usually off duty in VT after about 7pm, so you can park outside your accommodation overnight on the Saturday, then move the car early on the Sunday.

Over the years we've had several warning tickets left on the car by the police (from about 8am Sunday, when they start patrolling) asking us to move to a car park. We've always done so within an hour or so of being ticketed and have yet to be towed. wink

You could therefore move the car at about 9am Sunday, park at Les Menuires and catch the 9.55 am bus back to VT. Or you could ski back to VT, if you have a ski pass that covers Les Menuires. Simples! Very Happy

@MontyMM, if I might hijack your thread, how was your drive up to VT traffic wise on Saturday and did you stay close by or further north?
Just planning for next year, thank you!

 You know it makes sense.

Hi, we were driving from Lancashire -Burnley, and we set off at 15:30, on Friday (wife works in school.... :)been at Dover at 21:00, and then till 4;30 am Armageddon....((P&O "problems", DFDS "technical issues..), so we did get to VT around 18:00...

My ideal drive would be to set off early Friday morning, using Eurotunnel, and overnight somewhere between Lyon and Albertville..

Sorry I am not really any help, but our location, and jobs are messing with idea to get extra first Saturday skiing.
