Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Best touring bindings for QST 106

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I currently am using Dynafit Hoji Free boots. I do a lot of uphill, mainly at the resorts but some easy backcountry as well. Typical resort days include some, or all, skinning as I enjoy the exercise. My 2 pairs of skis (both 1500-1600 grams) have Shift bindings, and these work very well with the boots. I recently purchased a pair of Salomon QST 106’s and am having a hard time deciding on a binding. I would like the ability to skin with these for trips west, Presidential mountains/Granite Backcountry Alliance glades, etc. when there’s snow. I would use Shifts, but am concerned that the additional weight of the skis, and rubber soles of the boots may make for a sluggish combination. Would a pin toe binding give a more solid response, or would the Shifts be suitable? Interested to hear from anyone with a similar setup or dilemma. I don’t understand why boot manufacturers don’t include a solid area within the rubber soles - Dynafit used to have a few of the lugs made of solid plastic in these areas, but I see even they don’t do that anymore.
Thank you all!

Why not quiver killer your shifts across, see how you get on?

There's no issue with the AT sole of the Hoji Free's 'driving' the 106's - you won't notice any difference in them to your lighter skis. The Shifts are designed for skis like the 106's - whereas many would say they're too heavy for 1500-1600g skis and that by using them on those skis you've just lost the benefit of the lighter ski.

ATK Raiders / FR14’s with the spacers. Tour and ski beautifully. Prefer them to my shifts and save 500g.

@BobinCH, I agree... after set properly (not even close to what manual says they should be) and have no issues with prereleases anymore, it's by far best binding I ever had. Light, durable, and skis really good. I have luxury of having dedicated skis for freeride where I use lifts, and therefore race boots, so I have absolutely no need for Shift. For me Shift would be usefull only if you would want to use both touring boots and race boots on same skis. So if you are using only boots compatible with pin bindings ATK is really way to go.

Another thumbs up for the ATK C-raider. Was crashing through un-freezing and re-freezing slush and crud yesterday and they absorbed it all with no pre-releases. On the up they great too and above all light compared to shifts, Tectons etc.
