Cursed by beginners, loved( ) by experts, how do you get from one stage to the other? The answer, practice, practice, practice. When you can ski a steep, icy, narrow, busy, mogul run then you know that you've truly mastered on-piste skiing. If you can do it on a snowboard then there must be a small undiscovered tribe in Papua New Guinea that worships you as a god.

Silly question: where does the word 'Mogul' come from?
Tasty looking piste. Where is it?

Mike Lawrie, hmm, from the vegetation I'd guess La Plagne.

Michael B, If it is La Plagne that's the one where my 14 year gets down before me!
It's the shorter ski's you know

That looks like a really nice mogul field - not too steep, nice evenly spaced moguls plenty of width and no rocks/earth/grass showing between the moguls. Those are the sort of moguls I'd like to practice on. Hardly ever seem to get moguls like that.

I really love them, but I just can't ski them. Most of my big crashes have taken place on mogul fields, as have most of the times when I've nad difficulty getting down. I am only now just being able to link a few together... I wish that I could find some more red runs with them.

Those look lovely, nice slope so you can maintain some speed, spacing not too gnarly, and the kind of size where perfect line through the valleys isn't critical. Skied with a bloke once who said the best way to practice was to find a clear patch, then close your eyes and see how many you could ski listening to your legs rather than trying to intellectualise where to turn. He was a nutter but he had a point.

I think they look cool, but I prefer the morning piste when it's nice and smooth and easy. My poor legs don't like all the bumps...

Mr L does it all the time. Are there perks in being married to a God, or is it all waving at people and hosting boring diplomatic events while airhead fashion writers make snide comments about the size of your biceps?

after a lot of practice they become great fun.
i benefitted most from learning to attack them.

Same. I just cant seem to master these little bleeders either, despite living in La Plagne for the last 3 years and practicing all season. I can string a few together but ultimately they catch me out and I end up on my back, ski's off and about 50 feet from where I started.

I agree with the pro active rather than re-active strategy and attacking them, problem is after about 10-12 have been attached they start t attack me

What are your top tips for tackling the moguls - I gave them a go at my local ski center Chill Factore (Manchester) as they have the "give it a go" freestyle section. I managed them but was not as fluid as I would like to be - how do you prepare, any kind of stretches or particular activities help? This is the freestyle course - https://www.chillfactore.com/give-it-a-go/
