Poster: A snowHead
|
Think of the Milky Way next Feb half term... All pretty good skiers and snowboarders and usually go for large SC chalets (6/7 bedrooms)... Considering Sestriere more so because were hoping Italy could be slightly cheaper than France but have nothing to back that assumption up...
Also, I don't understand that there 'appears' to be a lift pass for €208 that covers the whole Italian side of the region (from the Italian resorts' sites), yet when you go to Montgenvre's website you can buy a pass that seems to go everywhere plus other neighbouring resorts for almsot the same price... ???
Any thoughts and advice on this area would be awesome... Thx all

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

It's much easier to get round the Mily Way from Sestriere.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Sestriere, the better skiing is on the Italian side of the link, its more central to get to the other parts from, you'll end up lunching on Italian side more (which is better and cheaper).
When I was there, pre covid, the Italian bought pass covered the whole Via Lattea

This is what I am struggling to establish... Having just come back from T3V, where everything is expensive, we're after something a bit cheaper next year... hence the option of maybe staying in Italy... The pass form any of the italian resorts says it just covers the italian side...??? DO you need to extend it then to travel over the border to Montgenvre..?

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@AlpineAddict, The normal Italian 6 day pass gives you one day in Monty, I thin’ there’s another option for unlimited access any day throughout.

The ski pass for Montgenevre and claviere is Mont de lune and I think it includes 1 day in the larger Milky Way area. The galaxie pass gives unlimited skiing from Montgenevre to sestriere etc but if you are in Montgenevre with kids in ski school you are unlikely to go beyond claviere.
Le napoleon residence in Montgenevre is very good but will be expensive in half term. It is best to go at Easter in my opinion.

@snowymum, thx for this... I think our ideal is Sestriere, purely for access... No ski school now so we have freedom to roam and unfortunately, due to kids and teachers we need to go at half term...
We do like to travel around so will want to explore pretty much everywhere... Still a lot cheaper than the pass for T3V...

Sestreiere website says "
"The Milky Way lift pass covers you for all the resorts on the Italian side of the border. This includes Sestriere, Sauze d’Oulx, SanSicario, Cesana and Claviere. If you purchase a 6 day pass then you will automatically receive 1 free day across the border in Montgenevre."
You will spend most of your time in Sestriere, Sauze d’Oulx, SanSicario anyway - best skiing, unless the weather fronts / snowfall has dumped much more snow on teh French side than the Italian side, that would be the only reason to spend more of your time in MontG

I’d probably choose Sestriere as it’s Italian, and my favourite part of Via Lattea is above Sansicario (lovely wide reds and gentle pisted blacks with excellent off piste potential just off the sides of most of the runs). Sestriere looks like a bit of a concrete jungle but it’s a small consideration. Excellent access from Sestriere to Sauze and Sansicario, getting to Monte and Claviere is a bit of a mission because of crap lifts (you have to take 4 different lifts in a row at one point) but it’s relatively easily doable for a day trip there and back.
