Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

PisteHors takes a retrospective look at the 2005/2006 season in France

Cover over the season as a whole, region by region. An excellent report from davidof...
Quote:
2005/6 was also a record year for avalanche deaths. Fifty five to date and for the most part triggered by the victims or members of their group. The number of accidents was due to the nature of the snow pack, a buried layer of weak snow crystals and the widespread risk across whole of the Alps. The early part of the season saw a shallow snow pack with continuous freezing conditions. There was little consolidation of the snow pack through rainfall and refreezing.

Talking of PisteHors, this page caught my eye. I had no idea of this road gap event before. It must be quite something to watch. And a tad risky to do.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Nick Zotov, there's also a road gap event on the Col de Petite St Bernard, the N90 which runs from La Rosiere to La Thuile, last year the route didn't open until 10th June and there was a snow height of about 9 metres.
