Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi. We are ooking for some recommendations please. We are visiting Chamonix for 6 nights over half-term. There are 8 of us - 4 parents and 4 teenagers (aged 13 to 17)
We are looking for dinner recommendations in the City center - nothing too flash but fresh and tasty food with a good atmosphere. As its half-term we will book in advance.
Thanks.

If you like pizza/Italian, we loved Neapolis along the side of the Alpina hotel right by the river. A little out of the way.
We had our wedding reception up on the mezzanine level of the Cap Horn restaurant so it will always be special!

had a very nice hot chicken sandwich from the burger place opposite Big Mountain the other day ...
@fixx, 's list is good but misses IMV Bistrot des Sports. Also Boccolatte very reasonable and menus du jour have been excellent of late.
mess has closed I think?
For a smarter experience, the Castel in les Praz is really very good, sister resto to Cap Horn

Le Tremplin in Les Bossons, well worth te trek. Possible by bus and a short walk (but longer on the way home but it's downhill) if you don't have wheels. Proper Savoyard food (+ steak etc.) at a very resonable price.

My personal favourite is La Tablée just below Boccolatte. Moderately expensive but very pleasant. Poco loco is a very different but enjoyable experience. More about the gut busting scale and quirky ambience than finesse, but you can't book. Entry is gained by patient queuing (often with beer in hand) and you may struggle to all be seated together.
If you get your adventure on, Argentiere has the very agreeable La P'tite Verte and the hidden La Crèmarie du Glacier.

+1 for La Crèmerie du Glacier. We always drove there so I cannot comment on access.
If you have transport and are looking for huge value for money the truckstop at le Chatelard (just below Servoz) worked very well for us (NB slowly through the first tunnel after the speedcamera and exit immediately after the tunnel portal) . Weekdays only (not many trucks at weekends!) a limited choice of dishes (but it was a choice), draught red or white wine. If we left there hungry it was our fault, not their's. Haven't been there for eight years but I'd try it again on principle. La Patronne and Le Patron were both very welcoming.
They don't have a website but it's on Tripadvisor and here: https://www.truckfly.com/fr/poi-details/relais-du-chatelard/11089/
