Looking at a DIY trip in March to La Plagne but absolutely shocked at the transfer costs.
I knew they were expensive but I was wondering if people had suggestions on how to get from Geneva to La Plagne without spending c300 pp.
Merci

How many people? Altibus or Bensbus might be the best value options

Thanks. 2 people. I've actually come across both in my searches but neither could accommodate us. I think Ben's last bus is 1430 but we land in the evening. For some reason altibus couldn't cater for us on the return journey (Sunday 13th march).

Renting a car and driving yourselves would surely cost less than £600?

@Ryunis, You can hire a car much cheaper from Lyon than Geneva, I'm sure it would be much less than £600 even allowing for snow tyres/chains.
Update, just checked with my son, he just paid £150 for a weeks hire of a car from Lyon.
Also there are some direct trains from Lyon Exubery to Aime

Car hire in March is about £380 from the Swiss side of Geneva airport for a week. I've rented one for next week. It is more from the French side.
The train should come in pretty cheep but you may need a taxi from Aime. Have a look at the trainline.com

@Ryunis, Could you not mix and match with your transfers?
Go out on Altibus and return on the train?
It's only about 40 euros one way from Aime to Geneva airport on the train.
Have you already booked your flights?
If so what are the times?

Thanks all for your suggestions. Kind of you to help out. We've booked accom and will land Sunday pm and depart Friday pm.
Will probably do a combo, as suggested, or just bite the bullet and pay for the convenience.
Pam W, we did look at car hire but the cheapest option was c£430 so if you add on fuel, tolls (if there are any) and the faff, you're not really saving anything. I think the cost of car hire has been discussed on here also.
I even looked at Uber and their rates are broadly consistent with the transfer companies.

It might just be worth seeing if a taxi company based in your part of la plagne (rather than Geneva ) can provide a lower cost transfer . If they are dropping someone off at the airport that afternoon , for example , they might want to fill the taxi on the return trip ? Just a thought but good luck with whatever you do .

Yes car hire plus tolls and petrol was not much cheaper than a transfer. We've booked 3 Valley transfers, 460 return for family of four geneva to belle plagne.

I've used Mountain Rescue Transfers and White Rides in the past. As a family of 6 a private transfer GVA-Montchavin and back (near Bourg/Aime) set me back about £500, and way less stressful than hiring a car. Not Sur eof they have smaller vehicle options or if the Transporter-typer vehicles are all they have, but great service. You may luck out with those transfer days rather than the usual Saturdays and get a reduction? A Quick Look now suggests about EUR400 round trip.
