Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi, Im off to Garmisch next week. Germany accepts our NHS covid pass as proof of vaccination. I suspect this will be fine travelling through an airport for example. However I wondered how readily it is accepted generally on public transport, Restaurants, Shops or for ski lifts and passes? Is this not an issue and everyone accepts a quick flash of your NHS covid pass from the app or is there some other German / EU app that would be better to have to prove my vaccination status that would be accepted everywhere? Any advice most welcome.

@DHosking, no reason it wont work but it is a bit clunky. I would suggest you get the Corona Warn app. It comes in English and you can easily load your NHS certificate into it. Note that many places will insist on photo id along with the QR code. It is worth having a paper one as back up but some places will only accept the code on an app (not screen shot etc) due to issues around fake certificates.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thanks, yes its very clunky having to open the app, select the pass, wait for it to load and then have separate barcodes for each vaccination. Assume they will need to scan all 3 barcodes? Will have a paper copy too. my worry is if phone battery runs out or there is no 4g up a mountain somewhere!

@DHosking, Nobody is going to scan 3 barcodes, just show the latest one. A paper copy of your booster certificate is a good idea to have in your backpack.

Hi, Found out about the German Corona Warn app which I have downloaded and scanned my pass into. Seems much simpler to use then the NHS one. Has verified my pass is acceptable too.

For iOS users you can export the QR code to the Wallet, which saves a few clicks and allows you to show without unlocking. Not sure if Android has similar, I assume it does.

It worked just fine every time we were asked for it (android phone) in Hamburg in December, and yes it was checked many times. We also had the local city app that verified where we were staying (and timed us in/out of the venue), and presented our passport every time for proof the other two apps were about us. It`s surprising how quickly you become accustomed it but it was still a faff!

@DHosking, We also carried the paper copy, just in case.

great, sounds like it should be straightforward then, cot the NHS App, the Corona Warn app and a paper copy. So covered all bases!

Every Land (state) probably has its own preferred app for checking into /out of restaurants etc. too. For Hessen it's Luca (I installed it but never actually used it), but no idea what Bayern uses.
There's also the CovPass app, which is only designed to hold certs rather than proximity detection, but not sure if that's only designed for those with a German EUDCC QR code or not?
No way I'd put a 3rd party app on my phone unless it's open source and I can see the entire code.
My experience near Frankfurt is every single shop will want to see the latest QR code and ID, except for pharmacies, supermarkets and those stores deemed essential. Some are a bit more anal about the ID. Some glance and check the name, but I've had one that couldn't find my DoB on the passport cos they wanted to cross check that too, and I had to highlight it. Good job I had that rather than ID card, where the text is microscopic in comparison.
Certainly a lot of vaccination certificate fraud. Some guy got busted for 10's of 1000's of fake certs.

@andy, I have had someone insist they will only accept opening an app in front of them which they checked against my id. Would not accept either paper or screen shots etc (lot of grumpy people stuck outside!). They claimed it was down to too many false certificates. That said most places are pretty laid back, a quick look is all that is required. I looked at Luca and didnt like it for some reason so have Corona Warn which is easy to use.
