Poster: A snowHead

Hi there
Apart from Colletts and Ski Miquel, are there any other companies offering guiding services anymore? We are lazy; hate map reading and like the company of the other skiers.
Thanks

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Not in France for sure.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I don't think Italy either. Mind you, chalet type operations were very franco-focused.

SoPiB, Guff
(Otherwise, on most bashes you should be able to find several people at a similar standard who have been several times so have a fairly good idea where they are going)
Generally guiding services have fallen foul of rules regarding ski instructor qualifications - I.E. the minute they are guiding people for money they should be qualified instructors (or high mountain guides) (at least in France). As a result it seems to have mostly (if not completely) died off because having ski instructors do it increases the price too much. (Easier to offer lessons and let people decide if they want them).

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@albob, So they do, local instructors, so it's not "free" then ...

Did that legal dispute in France over ski leading ever come to a conclusion? If I recall it was brought against Le Ski in Val D'Isere.

Thanks @albob. @qwerty360; still stuck with school holidays so bashes don't work timing wise for now but def an idea for the future.

Club Med include guiding by an ESF instructor as part of your package. I was in Val d’Isere last week with them.

MGS Ski offer group skiing every afternoon included as part of their packages. The groups are led by an ESF instructor and an MGS employee tags along too. I seem to recall some of the higher ability groups headed off piste the whole time. It was great for me, as the ESF instructor introduced us to suitable off piste opportunities we'd never have found without the service. He also gave us quite a few tips on technique too.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Just back from Andorra with Neilson, the guided trips are led by local instructors contracted by Neilson. There was no additional charge for using the service, it's part of the package price whether you choose to use it is up to you

We used Nielson for 2 seasons before Covid for the guiding, but it was restricted to 2 sessions over the week. We are away with Ski Miquel this week, and have had guiding every day which has been amazing. We also did a Club Med a while ago, again our group loved the guiding.
