So all being well ... a trip to Val Disere originally postponed from April 2020 is hoving into view for 1st week April 2022... !
Have to book skis - going to pick Snowberry streetside as they have a tremendous range (and reputation) and were good guys during the great cancellation of 2020... refunded without asking.
Problem is - they have about 250 pairs of skis.... so which ones do I try ?

As I have not skied for two years - I will say sod it and pay for the premium plus level (which then probably allows me to pick pretty much anything).
I currently ski on 179 cm Nordica Navigator 85's (few years old) and have loved them for that fact I know what I am going to get on every holiday - and they are well maintained ... but always feel a bit of a compromise ski .
Not really good enough off piste and a big turn radius on busy hard pistes. Hate them in bumps.
So I might try both something wider and something narrower (I assume they will let me change at least once).
And maybe something newer in the all mountain (perhaps 90 wide).
Snow conditions might further influence choice....
48 years old. 78 kilos. 183 cm tall . Ski fast and hard and love to carve on piste. Like to venture off the side but not yet a true off piste skier (may have a guided lesson though if conditions are looking good to dip my tie in a bit further).
Inside out level 9 (piste) and "improver" off piste.
Any thoughts on what skis I should try ? Possibly with a view to buying !!

Those Kastle look interesting but not a lot narrower than my Nordica Navigators ... ?
An enforcer would be the natural step up ... will see what the snow is like (and what we have planned) and select width around that.

I recommended the Magnums because I hired them for a week. They have a great balance between performance, ease of use and fun. If you are a little rusty, they will "look after you".
Again, I recommended the Slights because I own "The Ski". They should also have a playful and versatile performance and will make life easier. The Volkls and Nordicas are also excellent and might be the choice if you like more Damp and Hard-Charging skis.
My logic was that you will be rusty and will only be there for a week - so might like to try skis that give great performance, while also being fun, playful and easier to use.

Specs can be deceiving. The MX83 is not really an all-rounder like the Navigator, it is a rock solid piste ski which will carve, short turn, blast through crud, flow through moguls, and is stable at speeds well in excess of any I want to reach. On the downside, it will not float, preferring to find firm snow however deep below the surface.
