Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Best time to buy new kit

 Poster: A snowHead

After getting caught out in Scotland this year, with all the hire kit being hired out before I got to the slopes, I have vowed to buy myself boots and skis this summer. Can anyone advise me when is the best time to get discounted kit? I live in MW England. Thanks

Now is the best time to get discounted kit, with a few provisos. You have to know enough that you actually get something that is suitable, not just what they're trying to get rid of, and you have to be flexible in what you'll accept, and prepared to have something that is last season's model.

I'd say the day the sales start, normally early March, as you have more choice then, however now ain't bad, shops don't want old kit hanging around before the 07 gear arrives, so probably worth a haggle or two Wink

Skis at the end of the season, boots at the beginning of the season.

I did quite well and went to Snow and Rock in august last year - picked up some REAL bargains. The only thing was the choice was very limited - but just happened to find most of the stuff exactly as I wanted.

Just after i got back from Cervinia this year so the 17th of February i got some emails from snow + rock, nevisport and ellis brigham saying they had upto 40% discount. Virtually everything had 40% off the RRP so was extremely cheap. So i bought some skis, poles and a bag. I picked some bits up over the summer months from snow + rock too. It was more of a case, you take what fits though. Decathlon have some amazing offers in the height of the season. I bought some Rossignol Elite EXP1s for £180 when snow + rock were still selling them for £270. The only thing with decathlon is you don't get specialist advice + fitting - you need to know your stuff. The best thing to do is be prepared, and when something you want comes up, don't hang around and just buy it.

This might be a good time for skis: I have just got a line on Elan Skis at 40% off retail from a friend but I'll post the details in Buy/Sell.
