Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Poster: A snowHead
Got a couple of mates who will want to have a go in some gentle offpiste Tignes side, all will be kitted up.... candidates that come to mind are back of the borsat, skiers left under eye of the needle, punted couloir in Chardonnet bowl, Spanish couloir ? They won’t be out till Friday so will be chyou caking conditions nearer the time so hopefully avi risk I’ll have dropped a bit....... don’t want anything too steep ie pramecou but a decent enough slope......

There was a guy who popped into the Taos at the PSB selling this guidebook for Tignes

It‘s actually really good, organised by sector and with ratings for difficulty and exposure together with information about length of route, aspect etc. I thought it was really well put together.

I’ll check it out, I’ve got a couple of books but they are more the classic runs like the 3 walls etc

@ajc2260626, it has some very easy/gentle routes and is quite comprehensive.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Your suggestions are fair enough (not Spanish couloir though!!! Gonna assume some mistaken identity there), Glatier another good shout, Familiale towards Val d'Isere. Sadly though, anything gentle and easy accessed will be utterly rinsed by Friday.

Aiguillee Percee sector hasn't opened yet, so good place to head as soon as it does. Lot of people been skinning up already.

I did a bit of a blitz on the Chardonnet today with clients. Good snow on north-ish aspects, already turning on south-ish ones. Rode Punter's for a warm-up, then Straight-line (first tracks!) and Cafe Liegeois.

@stevomcd, hi Steve hows the guiding going? It seems a long time since we stayed with you in st foy!

I may have mistaken Spanish couloir I thought it as to the right of the lanches chair as you go up the chair?

Has the snow settled down a bit by now, So all aspects are ok, like you say am guessing all the sun is changing the southern facing stuff

Spanish Couloir is to the right of the Lanches chair but is a knicker dropper to coin a phrase! No where near what you describe as your requirements.

Cool, that’s what I thought, I’ve skied it and thought it was ok ? Is it possible that I only skied the bottom half which is a bit easier? Have you done any of the back of the sache I would imagine the snow is in decent condition that side ?

@ajc2260626, going really well, all my trips are pretty booked-out so no complaints at all. Beats cleaning chalets!

@mountainaddict, It is very good though and, IIRC, some if not all profits go to SOLEA, a local cancer charity.

On the face of it it's quite expensive. If it's as comprehensive as it sounds though probably excellent value for money, and it's the kind of thing that will likely still be as useful in 20-30 years time (and passed around friends during that time).

How much is a off piste guide these days? 400euros per day?

The guy that wrote the book is a very long term British guy called Simon Perry - he is the main guy behind it and certainly knows his stuff. He is now writing a book for Val. In fact there is several guide books - personally I also like the book (coffee table style) called Les Clres de L'Espace Killy by Didier Givois - I like the big photos in there as it allows me to picture the route and what it looks like!

Off piste guide for the day - prices vary but €400 upwards!

 You know it makes sense.

Yes, €400-500, though you would be lucky to get a good, fully qualified guide for €400 now.
