Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Kicking horse at end of December (intermediate skier) ?

 Poster: A snowHead

What are conditions typically like at kicking horse at the end of december? I've never been there, and am an intermediate skier...they've still got more availability than other resorts which makes me slightly suspicious.

Based on some of the Instagram feeds from Kicking horse and Revelstoke and other places in BC it looks like they have loads of snow already.

Not sure what you mean by "availability".

Here's the Golden highway cam which looks pretty normal for this time of year:

It's unlikely to be an issue, I'd say, but I'm not there yet.

From all accounts current conditions are above average for this time of year. No reason to think late December shouldn't be fine (it usually is even in a "normal" year). I'm not sure I'd recommend kicking horse for an intermediate skier though, might be a bit limited.

I was there mid December 2019, amazing conditions but would echo @boarder2020, not a huge amount of terrain that isn't gnarly

If its this year I would think conditions would be above average for December. Generally December an be a bit mixed with some 'early season ' conditions.

Skied Louise last weekend and it was the best early season conditions I remember

@Mrmojo, it's really not "intermediate" terrain, if my memory serves ...

Maybe the "more availability than other resorts" is due to the fact it's not an intermediate friendly resort, therefore not have a wide appeal? Toofy Grin

Have skied and boarded there. Lovely place, but,,.. it isn't really an intermediate ski place. Yes, you can get down the mountain., But it is, still, to essentially a heli ski mountain with a couple of lifts. Tolerable as an intermediate boarder, but imho tough on skis.
