Poster: A snowHead

I’m off to St Johan in Feb and I’m a very nervous skier! Have been once before and had a couple of lessons. Then went out with friends and lost my confidence! Ended up worse than day 1!
I’m after some advice…. Should I go for group lessons and a few (?) days? Or a couple of days of private lessons?? I’d like to be confident to at least spend some time with my friends….
Also can you hire equipment but leave Ski’s and boots in lockers?? Or do I have to take them back to my apartment?
Grateful for any help / advice people can give!

St J in tirol on Pongu?
Private lessons is always better than group.
I guess you lost your confidence with your friends, as you was out of your comfort level compared to group lessons where you kind of go as advanced as the ability towards towards the bottom end of class.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Yes…. In Tirol.
Would you get half day lessons or full day of private??

Ahem, depends on friends & if they are patient with you to join them in the afternoon
….. or just later in the week when you gain your ski legs! You could mix & match.
Probably better people here to advise on the confident aspect of skiing, as I board.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Private if you can afford it, they should tailor it precisely to your needs (physical and psychological). Group lessons are more fun but you’ll see slower progress almost by definition. And if you have someone confident in the group, the instructor will have even less time for you.

I’d go half day for a few days. And mornings. Snow conditions better and then you can meet up with people and do some gentle afternoon stuff
Private will be much more intensive and much more tiring. 3 hours/day should be enough. I booked a 4 hour lesson last time I skied and it was knackering…

I agree with the other advice. Private lessons should get you up to speed quicker and if there are no other mates learning in ski school as well, your priority is to improve as quickly as possible to join the rest of your group.
As for ski lockers, I hired equipment from the hire shop at the bottom of the main gondola, wintersport rental Noichl (iirc), which gave the option of leaving equipment at the end of the day. Definitely worth looking into.
