Skiers in Ischgl have to pay €79 for a day on the slopes. The Arlberg ski region, which also includes St. Anton, will charge €81.50 for a day ski pass during peak season next season. Reinhard Klier, CEO of Wintersport Tirol AG, explained the price increases to the Tiroler Tageszeitung newspaper as due to increased costs.
Top ski resorts in Bavaria: The 24 best in a large overview – also outside the Alps
The Brauneck ski area near Lenggries describes itself as an "El Dorado for summiteers." Visitors can expect "picture-perfect Bavaria." The operators boast on their website: "As one of the most attractive local recreation areas in the Free State of Bavaria, Brauneck boasts spectacular scenery in every season, delighting young and old alike." More than 30 kilometers of slopes offer a wide variety of slopes and varying levels of difficulty.
Despite the general price increases, there are still ways for skiers to save money. Many ski resorts offer discounts for online bookings or multi-day passes. An attractive option for frequent skiers is the purchase of season tickets or regional ski passes. The SuperSkiCard, which provides access to 88 ski areas in 23 ski regions, costs €83 per day in the coming season. With frequent use, such a card can quickly pay for itself

I was in Saalbach during the World Championships in February and was talking to some American skiers there. They couldn't believe how inexpensive the skiing was compared with prices in the States despite the prices in Austria having increased significantly over the last 5 years. The skiers were from Texas and calculated that it was far cheaper for them to fly to Europe for a week on skis than to fly to any of the main North American resorts.
I've just looked at a random US resort - Steamboat Springs - for 2025-26 prices. I know that there are IKON tickets and other deals available but a discounted day ticket in January costs between $201 and $249. A 3-hour private lesson costs an eye-watering $999 (typically around €200 in Austria) and even a one-day group lesson is $269, or $456 for a two-day Learn To Ski session.

Yep, the price increases are just crazy, pricing skiing out of reach for all but the elites. That's why we've seen so many of these ski resorts go bankrupt in the last 2 years with over 60% of ski resorts in the alps now permanently closed, leading to mass unemployment and hotel/restaurant/etc closures....
Or maybe it's just supply and demand and demand for skiing is actually going up, resulting in resorts needing to invest in infrastructure and someone having to pay for it.

@Mjit, St Anton has made it deliberate policy to put up prices, it is now harder than ever to find places to stay. No issue if you are happy spending a €1000/night though.
Also true that far less people go generally. When I first came here most people went skiing with their family, mostly to the local Bavarian spots but also to Tirol & Südtirol. Now I know very few people who go, partly less reliable conditions locally but mainly because of the cost, which is especially prohibitive for families.

I have a vivid memory of skiing in Austria, many years ago, on a Sunday morning. We were in our garish C&A outfits, being generally hopeless at skiing but trying very hard. Then I saw two local elderly women - at least 70 - skiing in Loden coats, proper hats. They were skiing down together, side by side, effortlessly, chatting. That became, and remained, the image I aimed for. Not the coats, but just skiing as naturally as they would have walked, side by side, home from church.
Never quite managed it.....

Or you mean improving quality of the offering and going for the higher end of the market?
In the bigger resorts, the days of cheap pensions and rickety two man chairs are going. It's all swanky 4* & 5* spa hotels and multi-million heated 3S gondolas...and it all comes at a price!!

@luigi, The TVB (tourism association) simply made it policy to push upmarket and practically all hotels, guest houses etc have followed the policy and put up the prices. The thought is to go more high end but many places are just the same but a good deal more expensive.

Or it's just free market economics where the 'market value' of something is the intersection between the min/max a seller is willing to take and the min/max a buyer is willing to pay. If you run a business that realistically has to make all it's money in just 1/3 of the year why wouldn't you put your price up 5% if you attracted sufficient trade at that price point to make more profit than at a point 5% lower? And as a customer if that 5% higher price point's too rich for your blood, well don't book that hotel/resort and go somewhere else/don't go anywhere.

What a load of horse poo. I don't know what is worse, the people that write this shash or the people that pass it on to us!!
Since when has 80 Euros been 'psychologically important'?!
Its like all the rubbish peddled on the news every night about the 'cost of living crisis', if that was the case then all the pubs and restaurants in my local city would be empty and/or closing down an the car parks wouldn't be full of nearly new SUV's.
When you start seeing deserted slopes, no lift queues and empty mountain restaurants then we'll know its starting to get too expensive.

The hotel we’ve loved in Schladming since 2017, post pandemic increased its room tariffs by exactly 20% per winter … we have their old brochures and invoices to prove it. Compounded, that’s heading towards double in a minute time frame.
To put in context, the CPI has taken 29 years to double in the UK.
Not a problem and it’s not personal (great memories and it’s owned by a lovely family), we voted with our ski boots. Discovering great value in the Sella Ronda and we’ve broadened our skiing horizons. Everyone’s a winner.

The hotel in question post pandemic got even busier, wealthy Bavarian and Austrian regulars prebook 12 months ahead for the identical rooms again. Before next season’s room rates are released. They take precedence. With Poles, Hungarians, Slovaks etc taking the weeks pre Xmas and from March.
Only know all this because we were regulars until December 2023 and got to know the owners a little.
A general comment, post pandemic there’s a well documented ‘make the most of life’ attitude to holidays and leisure. So not shortage of demand in the relatively small Alps from wealthy Dutch, Brits, Swedes, Germans etc.

Folks
Watchout for the new ""Infrastrukturabgabe/Mobilitätsabgabe"" tax in Austria this season
For example Salzburgerland
Maria Alm.
There would first be the (kurtaxe) €2 p.p.p.n.
This has been increased to €3.2 p.p.p.n. (60%).
But now the Infrastrukturabgabe of €4.6 p.p.p.n is also added.
Total of €7.8 p p p n.
For example 3 nights (weekend trip) , now €23.4 instead of €6.
Your need to check other Austrian States if it has been implemented
