I am on my way back up to County Durham right now. I am liking the look of next week’s BBC forecast. Of course they need to get the power back on for the poor folk who have suffered this past week (rather more important than skiing).

Weardale was open today after the bonus of overnight snow
Cover was decent on the main F1 run but the snow was quite wet and a bit sticky at the bottom. Good fun for a couple of hours.

Looks like good snow cover on the main run though the snow may be a bit damp tomorrow. Some pics on the snow report page taken today by a Walker.

The forecast for Weardale was wrong It was sunny on the drive up to Eastgate but we could see ominous-looking low cloud on the tops towards the ski area.
Sure enough, there was stubborn low cloud on arrival, with mild temperatures (2C) and more or less incessant drizzle. The result was rather damp (but perfectly skiable) snow, which thinned and disappeared as the day wore on.
Still good fun, as ever.
We spoke to new members from Harrogate and Scarborough, who really enjoyed their first visits, despite the less than ideal conditions.

Good skiing in the Lakes and up at Yad Moss today too by the look of it.
Welcomed a couple of newbies.
Sadly probably no skiing at Yad Moss this weekend but hopefully going cold again by Christmas.

Temperatures cooling down for Christmas. Will we get enough snow to run the tows? Will we be allowed to travel

@Peter S, looking like a bit of battle between cold and mild air, but precipitation around, let's hope the pennines get a very pleasant Xmas present

@kitenski,
Yes it’s chopping and changing all the time. If we can get the cold established then a strong easterly will normally supply the snow off the sea. Timing would be perfect….. except from a personal point of view I’ll be up in Scotland

Had a ride up to Yad Moss today.
After 8-10cm of snow around Woodland/Hamsterley area of County Durham on the way there, we were anticipating a lot of snow at the ski area. However, there was less than we expected, with cover very thin and grassy in a lot of places.
Although it was - 3C at the bottom and the snow was very powdery, the underlying ground was sodden. This led to soaked skins on the ascent, with them balling up ridiculously with snow as a result. Descending was tricky too - the skis kept sticking on the wet terrain, making turns very difficult in places. Still, the weather was beautiful; we managed some fresh tracks; and it's always nice to have a slide on home snow

The ground should be freezing up nicely tonight. It’s sub zero and there is a strong wind blowing. Just been out on my skis here tonight and there is a lot of snow redrifting on the WNW wind. The fences at Weardale and Raise should be catching it tonight and tomorrow but it will be straight up the hill at Yad Moss. More snow Thursday with a bit of south in it so keep monitoring the situation

Yad Moss, Weardale and Lakes all need more snow but there is a weather warning for up to 10cms tomorrow. That would be enough…….if we get it! On standby for Friday and perhaps the weekend though it’s getting milder then.

Did a few laps at Yad Moss and some jobs up there today. It was actually quite skiable. Unfortunately it’s going to rain tomorrow so we are not going to run. An outside chance that Sunday may be possible ?
Apparently Allenheads was good today

The Lake District Club ran the tow today. Good effort. Conditions were challenging apparently.
Yad Moss hoping that Storm Eunice delivers on Friday for some skiing on Saturday. Probably a big ask but fingers crossed.

So Yad Moss and all the Pennines resorts could be in for a day-o-plenty tomorrow. Couldn’t believe my eyes when Peter posted that it could be on, with a good webcam link of Yad filled with where the heck did that come from snow. Wonders never cease! now where’s my Mr Zogs.(wax)

While we wait for English snow, Another Place, the hotel on Ullswater, is running several interviews with Lake District skiers, including Lake District Ski Club members Jenny Nuttall and Charlie Sproson, on their blog.

Fresh tracks and fun in the sun (plus heavy snowfall at times), ski touring at closed Weardale today
Knee deep near the fences; thin where windblown; and hard work up and down once the skis started balling up in the warmer temperatures. The snow became very sticky.
We encountered one other ski tourer - a tow operator who said they are hoping to run the lift tomorrow. Conditions could be marginal after what we saw today - but April turns in the North Pennines are never to be sniffed at A good overnight freeze might improve things.

Yes I got that wrong, sorry! The skiing was ok first thing and disappeared after lunch. Still, a pleasant day in the hills with some skiing at least.

Raise was open for skiing yesterday. A fantastic clear day with the snow line down to about 2100’.
GEFS is pointing at a warm up over the next week or so then a possible cool down again after the 20th ?
