Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

"A really strong inbounds skier who’s never toured before is like an extremely attractive virgin. "

I want some of what those folks have been smoking.

All that heavy breathing, groaning, sweating and moist clothing. Never really knowing how far you will go, will you even pass first base and reach the bumps? Will conditions be hard or soft? Wondering how many have been there before you. Going down is the fun bit but you can't just dive in there without checking the terrain and weighing up the risk. After hours of polling then peaking, it's great to finish it all off with some nice face shots.

A long long time ago on a continent far far away I spent a month as an ice climbing tart. I really was shameless. Enlightening. On the plus side I had a fantastic day climbing thin ice with Carlos Buhler (who has climbed all over the world on little known peaks such as Everest and K2). Carlos was very very safe. Here he is being very brave.

But also with 'Chad'. Chad was not very very safe.

But what did I learn?

Do I ever learn anything?

One thing I learned was that if you hang around in the right places you can pick up all sorts of people to climb / ski with and that this is an excellent way of doing lots of ice climbing. Humm - was I supposed to learn something else??

I persuaded Kooky to do a little ice climbing practice despite her hatred of heights.
