3rd outing with the 360 and gradually getting the hang of filming with it, although the hard part is the editing!
This time was using a stick mounted just below the handle of my ski-pole held in place by a cable-tie and a good old bicycle toe-clip strap!
When skiing with the stick mounted like that it feels really weird and it's hard to use the poles like you usually would, this time I reduced the height of the pole by about 10cm, and that seemed to help, however as you'll see we were skiing in some pretty tight trees and at speed not ideal for getting use to something sticking out, but it may well have helped get more dialled in using the pole like that as I had no choice but to ski normally though nearly had a few impromptu cuddles with the trees
As ever hard to, but managed to keep the finished edit to below an Insta-Minute.
I cant get my head around how that works but fantastic footage - really brings you there! Made my day
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

It's a bit "warped" if that makes sense? IE trees all bent, there is a way to straighten all that out unless you were specifically after that effect, but it's a great video capturing the moment!! Not jealous at all
I can't cope with that fish-eye effect at all. Much prefer you're usual camera work and have enjoyed your combined skinning and 'talking bollox' commentries.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@kitenski, have done another edit as it's been a mank afternoon playing around with the settings.
Think it's quite hard to get a smooth film tree skiing as there are lots of sudden necessary movements, but getting there.
Think it's also easier to edit on the phone as opposed to the desktop which is a wee bit bizarre?

@Weathercam, your forward shots don’t have the fisheye whereas the rear and side ones do even in that second edit.
I do remember I found it easier to edit on an iPad last time around....

That's because the edit is all about a compromise
If I just turn the view 180 and keep scaling the same, this is what you'll see
However by zooming out to get all of the skier then that's when you get more of a fisheye, and obviously, the trees accentuate that.
A longer stick is the answer but I chose to shorten mine for the rigours of skiing trees

You can zoom out and not have the fisheye from memory... auto levelling horizon button always helped me

The more you zoom out the more of the 360 you'll capture hence the fisheye will be more and lens correction will not help!!
snowHeads are a friendly bunch.

@Weathercam, there is definitely a different way to zoom out and not fish eye I’ll have to have a play to remind myself ...
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Great stuff.
I love the tech but I don’t understand how the camera can appear to be separate from you - the connection between you is visible only in one short shot where your shadow is seen.
Does the software edit out the ‘stick’ on which the camera is mounted, perhaps?
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

@Red Leon, yes the camera removes the stick!!
You know it makes sense.

@kitenski,
Too bloody clever by half!

Can’t seem to embed this but link below for weathercam showing zoomed out and no fisheye
They are great. I’ve got a 4m stick for mine. It’s like jousting taking it down a busy groomer .

@Weathercam, no bendy trees/lift stanchions or horizon so maybe distance of focus has an effect?? It’s all pretty new to me as well!! Isn’t there a lens correction tick when you export the edits from the GoPro player app??
@kitenski, I mentioned the lens correction above, it does make some difference but not substantial.
I've now clocked up, well into double figures, a fair number of hours over the last couple of days both on the app and desktop, but I do enjoy it plus no OH to nag me
And then I bring clips into premier elements, not pro, to link together.
Snowing lightly so maybe back out tomorrow.

+1. I seem to recall an edit of Philwigs where it made a nice open powder field look like he was constantly cresting a rollover. I think it's just a function of the 360 cams that unless you crop/zoom in really hard they look that way.

OMG no helmet and filming at the same time. You, sir, must have brass balls.
