Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

volkl deacon prime - length

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi,
I have found quite good offer for volkl deacon prime ski ~130euro - it is some rental model similar to deacon 74 (74mm under foot).
Do you think it is worth to buy such a used ski + what size should I choose for me (I am 164cm height) - I think 163cm ski should be fine for me or should I choose longer model 170cm ?

I wouldn't buy a rental ski, when the likes of Glisshop have such good offers.

As for length, that also depends on

- Ability
- Aggressiveness
- Preference
- Gender

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

-Ability - advanced/expert
-Agressiveness - very aggresive Happy
-Preferance: not sure - I liked a lot short slalom turn with SL ski R12-13, but I don't know if I would like to ski like that whole day
-Gender Male

By the way I am searching for some new or used ski for me because right now I am using some very old salomon crossmax with R19 and 170cm length ---> I think that almost all new model from 2020 should be better than my 2003 year old model Happy
I think that for sure I should get 163cm or more (taking into consideration that there is also rocker, maybe even 170cm)

For an aggressive skier of your weight a Deacon74 in 163 or 168 would probably work very well. I am about 10kg heavier than you and I love the Deacon74 in either 168 or 173 (if skiing hard, fast carved GS turns). At medium cruising speed the Deacon is amazingly docile but the harder you push it, the more exciting it gets..

Volkl Deacon Prime 2020 is available only in 142cm, 149cm,156cm,163cm, 170cm
Do you know anything about this model - I had answer from seller that this is similar than deacon 74, but with harder front ski laminate. For 135$ it should be quite good deal (it is rental ski from last year, but also we had only half ski season due to covid)
Also I have noticted there is no UVO in that prime model.

@baszek, IMO. You are looking at 165 - 170.

I'm also 10 stone and (I think) around your level, though probably less aggressive.

If I was on a Stiff ski, I'd be looking at 165. If on a more forgiving ski (say a Head Magnum) - 170. I have a Slalom Ski in a 157 (Atomic SL 11), which is a blast.

As I understand it, the UVO makes a good difference.

At 10 stone and in my case, only getting a week per year - I prefer skis that are a little playful and not too damp/stiff.

There is only 163cm for this model - but 2cm should not be a big difference, right ?

I wouldn't have thought so - there are so many variables. You will have a chance to try them.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Very Happy I still belive tha 2cm should not be a big difference. Or I can still choose 170cm if 163cm is not enough.
I have found this skis: https://www.olx.pl/oferta/narty-volkl-deacon-prime-2020-163cm-jak-nowe-CID767-IDF2zrn.html#de309129be - they are ~135$ so I am not planning to keep them long wink What do you think about this model ?
This covid season I will go skiing one or two times (or never if next covid wave will come - right now all ski resorts are closed and you can ski only if you are Pro with ski license) - so I thought to buy sth cheap just to have sth better than my very old salomon crossmax pilot 9

by the way maybe it is not bad idea to wait 2-3 months - I think that after this season some good ski deals might appear...
