Poster: A snowHead

Hi,
I have found quite good offer for volkl deacon prime ski ~130euro - it is some rental model similar to deacon 74 (74mm under foot).
Do you think it is worth to buy such a used ski + what size should I choose for me (I am 164cm height) - I think 163cm ski should be fine for me or should I choose longer model 170cm ?

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

I wouldn't buy a rental ski, when the likes of Glisshop have such good offers.
As for length, that also depends on
- Ability
- Aggressiveness
- Preference
- Gender

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

For an aggressive skier of your weight a Deacon74 in 163 or 168 would probably work very well. I am about 10kg heavier than you and I love the Deacon74 in either 168 or 173 (if skiing hard, fast carved GS turns). At medium cruising speed the Deacon is amazingly docile but the harder you push it, the more exciting it gets..

Volkl Deacon Prime 2020 is available only in 142cm, 149cm,156cm,163cm, 170cm
Do you know anything about this model - I had answer from seller that this is similar than deacon 74, but with harder front ski laminate. For 135$ it should be quite good deal (it is rental ski from last year, but also we had only half ski season due to covid)
Also I have noticted there is no UVO in that prime model.

@baszek, IMO. You are looking at 165 - 170.
I'm also 10 stone and (I think) around your level, though probably less aggressive.
If I was on a Stiff ski, I'd be looking at 165. If on a more forgiving ski (say a Head Magnum) - 170. I have a Slalom Ski in a 157 (Atomic SL 11), which is a blast.
As I understand it, the UVO makes a good difference.
At 10 stone and in my case, only getting a week per year - I prefer skis that are a little playful and not too damp/stiff.

There is only 163cm for this model - but 2cm should not be a big difference, right ?

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

I wouldn't have thought so - there are so many variables. You will have a chance to try them.
